There are already too many micromanagements duty in the game that I really do not want one more. Turns late game are really a slog especially if you went Authority and currently moving like 116 units in a Standard map game.
I have to agree that new spy system is more a nuisance than anything. I'm finding forgetting their assignments a lot, especially in later eras when you have 5 to 6 to babycare.
My personal solution is trying to keep one or two on active duty (spying) and assign other as diplomats and city...
There's something strange about DoWs: either nothing or chained since Medieval. All or nothing.

I'm finding almost no use for them at they tend to bloat the Authority bonus unit every ten population.

Agree on Emperor difficulty about distress: very high and spikes a lot from modern era onward.

Either boost the yields gain and the risk being killed or lower the bonuses Ais get. Spies are no where useful as they were.
Anyway I have long abandoned the trials for peaceful play going for full domination every game with tech trading on so I can pull my vassals in line with my war tech.

_ confirmed CS kill barbarians but not their camps leaving them free to spawn units if there are free tiles
_ confirmed CS being passive and they do not help on attack. I have 3 CS allies...
