What happens when you change production?

For buildings and units, the hammers are not lost, but still applies to whatever you were building. If you then change back, your progress isn't lost. They do not, however, apply to whatever you've changed to. For wonders, the same. If an AI beats you to a wonder (after you've changed...

How many 'hurry production' with Great Engineer?

I've had this happen once. I let the city build one turn of the second wonder, and could then hurry as normal. I figure it might be a bug. At any rate, I'm pretty sure there's no actual limit or cooldown on hurrying.

    Conversion?

I definitely think you should switch, although it depends on your preferences. Pros: *Hex grid takes some getting used to, but ultimately allows for more fluid movement. *Combat is vastly improved. It's a lot more entertaining, requiring more tactical thinking and removing unit stacking...

Guerilla warfare with chariot archer and scout!

Aww. :( Oh well. At least my mid-to-late game regular cries of havoc will be all the easier.

    Diplomacy and annoying ungrateful civs

Amazing post, PhilBowles. It really gave me a fresh perspective on the matter. You are a god among men, thanks. Side note: Is there any spammy screenshot thread or so on these forums? I just captured a screenshot of a funny oddity. I'm not sure I want to start a whole thread for something that...

Guerilla warfare with chariot archer and scout!

How so? I haven't really kept up to date about G&K features, aside from the really obvious.

    Diplomacy and annoying ungrateful civs

For the record, I don't mind so much backstabbing or negative diplomatic stuff. I just feel the diplo AI occasionally acts really weird, and a lot of things I figure would be natural to account for isn't. Plus, there's really not much point to maintaining good relations with AIs. Or if there is...

    Diplomacy and annoying ungrateful civs

This may be just a rant, or it may be me looking for some insight on the diplomacy system. Having gotten a DoW from Napoleon, and being technologically superior, I decided to make his life a little difficult. Earlier in the game, he conquered half of Catherine's land, and they're still at war...

    Largest city

Now, it isn't close to challenging the whooping 104 posted earlier, but my current capital (playing as Monty) is at size 40. It's only 1630 AD, and it's growing at a rate of 1 pop/30 turns, roughly. And I'm playing on Marathon, so I'm sure it'll be quite sizeable by the time I finish.

So does it seem that Civ3 players love Civ5 and Civ4 players hate it?

I was a big fan of IV and V. I hear a lot of people griping about the last edition, but I personally find it to be comparatively brilliant. The changes made to combat alone makes Civ V stand out to me. Sure, the AI is a bit awful, but the Civ AI never was very good.

    Help on king

Edited! My best advice isn't necessarily saying much. Still, in case he attacks, I suggest defensive positions. Try to place your ranged units where they can do the most damage, and keep your riflemen in reserve in between or even behind. When the waves come crashing, just blast away and try to...

Guerilla warfare with chariot archer and scout!

I regularly have chariots survive extremely long. My chariots don't die, they retire whenever the AI seems to have gotten LS and trebs. Frankly, I find them amazing defensive units early game, and useful harriers against far stronger foes later on. Having a fast unit able to pick off a couple of...

    Help on king

Four tiles away from his capital? Sounds to me like you may have an angry Dutchman on your heels very soon. My advice is to prepare to turtle up just in case (get some defensive buildings + archer of some kind). Do you have any of that? What tech level are you on?

    Help on king

I'm currently getting used to King myself. I'm not an expert on handling the GPT, but I see joncnunn has already given some solid advice. I'd like to expand on early game defense with minimal forces, as that's something I seem to be very sucessful with. I regularly mow down forces ten times my...

    Nukes, Unfair?

As frustrating as being nuked is, the shoe's usually on the other foot. At least, that's been my experience. I've been caught off guard and had some cities demolished occasionally, sure. The times I've used them to great effect? Lost count. Last time was particularly wonderful. I was...
