    Dealing with runaway AI

There are certain technologies that are worth racing like hell for. I'd put nukes at the top of the list, followed by Combined Arms (tanks are pillage beasts if the other side doesn't have them). Remember that in any war, the fastest way to win is to break the enemy's will and destroy their...

    Dealing with runaway AI

Sometimes civs make weird offers that make no sense. In my current late game, I've been working on my relationship with the Iroquois, and they've started pitching deals where I pay them to vote against a proposal I just made two turns prior. It's like, no, you don't get it, I want Casus Belli...

    New Version - January 29th (1-29)

In my current game I just watched Genghis rape one of Arabia's cities along my border. Yeah. Definitely more efficient. :)

Happiness dropping due to upgrading my millitary?

Out of curiosity, what did the EUI tooltips say about it? At the top of the screen, at the happiness indicator, you should be able to hover there and get a tooltip explaining exactly what is accounting for the unhappiness in your empire. You can also hover over the city bars and get that...

    End of January Patch Preview

Belligerent China on the southern border, at war with Venice to the north, and runaway Ottomans on the other continent.. probably won't win this. Do I keep this game going, or do I wait for the update? Decisions, decisions. Guess it's both for now! :)

    Dealing with runaway AI

I pretty much play only Oda Nobunaga Japan. I'm not a Deity hardcore like many here, most of my games are Prince or so. And my advice here probably isn't going to help you in your current game, because it relies on early prep. In my experience, Japan is all about winning the battle before...

    What's your repeated mistake?

Forward-settling a city that I can't defend properly. It's usually city #4 and I have a reasonably-sized army and I'm starting to look around for first major war opportunities (I usually play Japan). Hey, there's an 8-iron hex up there! Get a settler together quick and it's time to found...

Do AI Nations Attack Each Other?

On my current playthrough, everyone's attacking everyone. It mainly depends on what AIs are on the board, I think: if you have Russia, America, Rome, Mongolia, etc. around, they're never just sitting on their hands hoping for a Culture or Diplo victory.

How does the AI decide where to send diplomats?

I'd like to know this, too. I've had more than one recent game where I'd find two or three diplomats parked together somewhere, not sure where to go. Or like the OP said, taking off around the globe when a perfectly vulnerable CS is ten hexes away. I just stopped setting them on...

    Colonists won't colonize - happy-related?

Okay, thanks. Weird, I've been playing Civ5 for years, never saw that before.

At what point do you realize a game is lost?

Usually when it becomes apparent that the rest of the game is going to be a miserable slog, assuming that I'm not in the mood at the time for holy diplomacy wars (sometimes I am). I bail a lot less with CBP, I've been finding. Even in situations where circumstances have turned against my civ's...

    Colonists won't colonize - happy-related?

I've been playing CBP over the summer and have to say, I'm beyond impressed. Even playing a bunch of mods (most of which ended up as part of CBP), I'd started getting bored with Civ5/BNW and had begun moving on to other things. This brought me right back in, and I'm now starting to feel like I...

    First Impressions

First impressions, after a couple hours of playing. It kinda reminds me of the recent Batman movies - I liked Batman Begins a lot, LOVED Dark Knight, and I really wanted to love the third movie (which, seriously, I just had to Google to remember what the hell it was called). Someone asked me...

    Map Labels

Still having a lot of fun with this mod, and eagerly awaiting v.5! BTW, if anyone else out there is having the issue I reported above, I tracked down the fix. It's fairly easy to do - just comment out line 338 of MapLabels.lua, so that it reads as...

    Map Labels

Hazel, thanks so much for the work you've put into the mod. My build is pretty mod-heavy, with a lot of custom civs that seemed to choke earlier versions of Map Labels, but v4 is so far working like a champ. The only issue I have at the moment is that, for some reason, every time I exit the...
