Tried that, also tried installing the latest nVidia Beta driver (326.80) and that didn't do much, I lowered all the settings to low, including Fog of War quality and that caused the game to run as fast as it used to run before, with no major FPS drops for the most part.

That would probably have been the case if it was only a problem while running on the external monitor, but the tile graphics and the framerate drops persist even when running only on the laptop screen itself.
Nope, it's got a pretty good cooling system which provides good air flow from inside the laptop to outside. I've also got a cooling deck for it with 3 fans underneath that work all the time. I don't think it can overheat in 3-5 minutes of running the game, it's never overheated that much on me.
