It can be intimidating, but the games are a lot of fun. And it is not necessary to be a deity-level player to contribute -- I am still not very successful at Deity, even after years of playing Civ IV. The team format really helps balance out the various players' strengths.
Is it possible to shift Toku into environmentalism, due to his favorite civic being in the same category? If my reading of Xteam's thread is correct, that is why they are planning to kill Toku -- they do not think they can get him into environmentalism.
With their tech being where it is...
The vast majority of the fighting was with trebs and crossbows, yes. We did have a couple mounted units later, after conquering Darius and taking his horses, mainly for mobile GG medics. And in the very late stages we had some muskets.
We whipped a galleon out of Osaka after it came out of...
Looks like Darius beat Xteam to Liberalism. Ouch. :(
Yes, that arctic off-shore zone north of Toku is potentially very nasty if you had not explored far enough north/were not expecting it. We got a galleon out of captured Osaka, but that takes time for the city to come out of revolt and then...
The core of our army was crossbows, plus trebs for siege. We did mix in some HAs, especially later after we conquered Darius and took his horses. And some elephants were very useful also, mostly against the northern continent AIs. But crossbows did most of the work against Darius and Stalin.
We never did settle for the whales. We mostly had enough happiness, although there were a few points where we had a couple cities with unhappy faces due to heavy whipping. But we had quite a few luxury resources from conquest and from trade, so mostly we had enough.
Religion was quite late...
LC, yes, we took Metal Casting with the Oracle. Although we ended up changing our original plans for the GE we got from the forge engineer.
We also put some effort into fog busting to prevent barb city spawns, and also later barb galley spawns from the islands. Not sure how much difference it...
Xteam does look like they have some marathon playing sessions ahead of them to finish by the deadline, especially if they go for conquest or domination. War turns are time consuming. Plus they would need a lot of ships to move everything about.
Barb galleys never did cause us trouble, although one or two did show up in places. I think our efforts to keep them from spawwning were a good choice -- they could have caused annoying problems otherwise.
Seeing AlanH's reminders of the number of days left in other threads, t is nice to be...
Now to find time to read through everything. :) Should be interesting to see what choices the other teams made.
Edit 1: Looks like there were some interesting differences in early city settlement choices. Cows rather than double corn? I guess for AH to reveal horses? Which were not easily...
Great news! :)
Excellent work by both of you. You have done essentially all the work this game. I have learned quite a lot. Good game.
Edit 1: Still very close on the population. But enough. :)
It has been fun. Thanks for having me as part of the team.
Edit 2: Will be interesting to see what...
Hi Mylene! :)
Waiting to see what happens with the land percentage.
Edit 1: Population is really close. Hate to see shrinking cities. :( But should be just enough, I think.
Edit 2: Warrior 5 (by Mesa Verde) could pillage a tile for a bit of gold?
Edit 3: This is very close to the edge. :(...
