    2.6 Discussion - Religion

Fair point :) But I really do object to a US centric view of the world. Perhaps this is unsurprising of course, given that the game is programmed in the US and most forum members are probably from the US.

    2.6 Discussion - Religion

Koncadcabrel, "what cultural influence did it bring to the rest of the world". I'm really surprised at this comment. Just because YOU are ignorant of its cultural significance, does not mean it has less cultural significance than a religion you do happen to know of. Wisaeman, I would not...

    2.6 Discussion - Religion

I agree 100%. I think the *only* reason it's not included is because the members of the development team just happen not to know of it, or any Sikhs. 5th largest religion in the world  It would also enable the concept of the saint soldier to be further explored, perhaps as a new...

Curious - why no Sikhs in Civ4?

Wow.... some pretty major thread drift here :crazyeye:

Curious - why no Sikhs in Civ4?

Simply because I don't have the IT skills to do it :( If the game was easily configurable for people with near zero IT skill, I'd have already tried it.

    Good mod that :goodjob:

Curious - why no Sikhs in Civ4?

The thread is kind of drifting unfortunately. I acknowledged very early on that the Sikh civilization should be in the game, however adding that the Sikh religion would add less to the game. Can we please consider adding the Sikh civ i.e. the warrior culture of the saint-soldier, and the...

Curious - why no Sikhs in Civ4?

A short video showing some Sikhs practicing Gatka. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6KLN1jWdrJo These do not appear to be the elite Nihang. Note that the Nihang train their sons in Gatka from around the age of 7 using wooden sticks instead of steel swords. Sikh women also carry weapons...

Curious - why no Sikhs in Civ4?

Yes, the Golden Temple, as a religious building. Or perhaps the associated Akal Takht, which is the source of Sikh military authority and strength. As I conceded earlier, the Sikh civ would add much more to the game than the Sikh religion. Hence, I am proposing adding the Sikh...

Curious - why no Sikhs in Civ4?

Look into the elite Nihangs and Akali (not the political party "Akali Dal") for a greater insight. Most of these seem to have originated from a tribe called the Jats who invaded India from the North centuries ago. One of the Aryan groups who invaded and settled. Nowhere in the thread is...

What next? A 3rd expansion or the wait for Civ5?

LOL  It's just the more I've thought about it, the more I've realised what a cool civ it would be to add to the game :) Admittedly, it would have to be a warlike civ though, as the game cannot possibly allow for the subtleties required for an accurate depiction.

What next? A 3rd expansion or the wait for Civ5?

Definitely a 3rd expansion, with more civs and more gameplay features. Even more focus on the end game would be welcome. The missing Sikh civ should definitely be added for one :goodjob:

HiroHito, your message prompted me to take a look on Wikipedia, and I located a very moving account of the battle taken from the heliograph communications between the signaller in the outpost, and Col. Haughten in Fort Lockhart, which was in direct line of sight. Here is the account...

Good point, and a relatively modern battle. The 21 Sikhs killed 180 Afghans and wounded countless more, per the Afghans own count. The Sikhs ran out of ammunition in the end, and fought hand to hand with bayonets to the death. There were numerous older battles too, which are not well...

That's fair enough, and I agree that Judaism kind of falls into the same catagory. The point being that Sikhs do not ever have missionaries or attampt to spread the religion. That would run counter to one of its core beliefs i.e. that all religions are simply different paths to God.
