    Victories feel hollow.

I have to actually agree with the op in part here. The opposing AI do at times make the game feel fairly hollow. The reason for that is relatively simple. They're not really particularly dynamic AI. Instead, they're a collection of preferences assigned a specific chance of expressing...

    New DLC: Polynesia

Very good point. Though I can understand why they did. I'd wager more than a few players had never heard of the Hivans prior to this scenario. The other reason why I'm okay with it has a lot to do with a particular chapter in Guns, Germs, and Steel by Jared Diamond. Unlike in pretty much...

    New DLC: Polynesia

I played the South Pacific Map, lost by three turns to Hiva with twice as many cities as them, four times the land area, and 10 times the Moai on Prince difficulty. Methinks the AI might have been taking more advantage of the kills=culture policy than I was. At any rate, I also saw some...

    In Game Video Bugs?

I have CiV on both my iMac and my Vaio. The desert/tundra red blotches show up occasionally on the iMac, but not on the Vaio. (Probably because the Vaio is running DX11.)

    Patch 1.0.1.217

I predict we'll see the patch ported to Mac right around when Spring begins. (That's March 21 for those who are chronologically-challenged.) I'm hoping for sooner, but Aspyr is not known for their swiftness in porting patches. At least not ones that don't involve pay-for-play or DLC.

    New DLC: Polynesia

There should be an axiom about game announcements. "Never attribute to game design advances what can easily be accounted for by poorly worded press releases."

    New DLC: Polynesia

To those that claim Polynesia is unimportant or not important enough for this "early" inclusion in Civ V I offer a few thoughts: No Oceanic culture has ever been included as a regular, non-scenario civilization in the entire history of this game. This despite the fact that New Guinea alone...

Rallying call for Rhye's and Fall of Civilization

Agreed. No one's expecting a Manet, but I'd like to stare at something other than a flag when sipping the weak and bitter tea that CiV calls diplomacy. Though, admittedly, the original point that aesthetics for the diploheads are a low priority does make sense.

CtDs and How to Report Them?

I lurked for TSG7, and learned some things. I am eagerly awaiting TSG8, but am curious about something. CiV will ctd on me from time-to-time. I'm getting better at preempting these but am curious as to what information I'll need to provide if there's a crash and I need to pick back up from a...

    Info Addict

I'm going to ask an obvious question here. You've met other civs, right? InfoAddict won't populate its chart with info for those you haven't yet met. There's also usually a one-turn delay from meeting a civ to its data populating in the charts.

Rallying call for Rhye's and Fall of Civilization

I realized I forgot to state a civ preference in my email. It actually doesn't matter to me which civ I get, I'm happy to help with any one of them.

Problem: Mod Conficts... Solution: Mod Compatibility Index

The new in-game mod system seems to be a boon, both in terms of ease of mod installation (no more download-then-unzip-then-drag-and-drop) and in terms of the ability for one-click mod removal. Also, I believe it will encourage more mod usage for the small minority who are mystified by the inner...

Rallying call for Rhye's and Fall of Civilization

You've got that backwards, but its understandable, as the scholarship on the issue has been quite shoddy and ethnocentric for decades. That's changed recently though and we know more now about "pre-Columbian" populations than before. :c5citizen:As an example, the large earthen structures...
