    General Questions

Long time Civ player but have resisted 7 so far because of the obvious growing pains. One quick question - Marathon. Is it still on 7 because that's the only way I play.

Civ 6 vs. Civ 5 in regards to future 7

I've never held off buying a Civ game like I have with Civ 7. And from what I've read so far, I have no great desire to change that any time soon. I know Civ games always take a year or so to settle down but it seems that 7 needs gutting already?!

    Marathon Mode in Civ 7

Marathon only here! And yes I'm hoping for more of the same. And a bigger world too - Civ 6 felt too small.

Small Observations General Thread (things not worth separate threads)

Have to say, I really like 'look' of Civ VII - much better than the cartoony Civ VI and more akin to V if anything - no bad thing.

Things you *don't* want to see in Civ7 and its expansions

I don't want to see too many options which confuse the A.I. and make winning too easy. No heroes, zombies and vampires etc and stick to the basics. No cramped maps either - Civ is about exploring and the world just seems way too small, way too quickly on Civ 6.

    Civ7 Visuals Thread

Definitely back to realism for me - Civ 6 was just too cartoony for me. And how about proper BIG maps again? Even a huge map on Civ 6 felt a bit cramped compared to what we have had in previous games - especially with the one unit per hex thing. I didn't like that old map thing with the...

    Things You Noticed Just Now

A bit off topic but help! I seem to be the only one that doesn't know how to use that map tacks mod properly. I just don't get it! I click on a hex for map tack - now what? How does the mod help? I know this post makes me look incredibly stupid!:)

August 2023 Update - Patch Notes Discussion (Celebrating 32 Years of Civ!)

And that's why I have Clans and Heroes etc switched off! The AI is crap as it is - the add-ons just make it worse.

    Where's the joy in civ6?

Ha! I'm an "old timer" as well as I started playing Civ 1 on the Amiga too! Was it two discs or three? Civ 2 on the PC is when the addiction really started though.

Official announcement: Hot off the presses. Next Civ game in development!!!!!!!

Sorry, I should have mentioned that I only ever play Huge maps so the fact that it isn't so Huge anymore is a bit annoying!

Official announcement: Hot off the presses. Next Civ game in development!!!!!!!

I just hope they make the world BIGGER this time round - like it used to be. Even huge maps are not that big compared to previous games meaning Civ VI was a downgrade on this score. Just more space is needed generally - I think this is another reason why the AI struggles so much.

    Things that still irk me

I'm sick and tired of the AI having Great Generals milling about - with no actual troops around them!

Poll: For Civ VII, which art direction style do you prefer?

Realism all the way for me. I prefer the Deco look of Civ V by a mile. And I hate the map fog of VI. And slightly OT but can this realism be applied to the game as well?! I really dislike the addons for VI with vampires and the like and always have them switched off. The AI has enough trouble...

    Will Civ7 be a diamond?

Well I know I won't be rushing to buy it on release as with pretty much ever itineration of Civ since III. Civ 6 simply wasn't properly ready for ages after release. They really should have a properly functioning game on release but that won't happen...

What type of game setup do you usually do?

Huge / Marathon / Continents (one or the other), maybe Archipelago sometimes / no special modes / disaster level 1. Oh and I reduce the amount of Civ's to give everyone more space - those maps just aren't Huge enough for me. Ill take the City States down a bit too.
