Ghandi, who else managed to liberate 500+ million people by peaceful demonstration? As Napoleon526 said, the world would be a better place if others followed his example.
Ghandi, when asked what he thought of Western Civilisation replied: "I think it would be a wonderful idea".
My signature below is also a favourite of mine from Winston Churchill...
To give an answer (or at least an opinion) on the original question:
The question of how one defended Stalin as a western communist can be partly answered by discussing Stalin's status while he was alive. His reputation of course was forged during WWII. In this war Stalin mobilized the...
Just a quick tip, but one that was amazingly effective. If you start close to a supply of gold on hills, build your first city on it! This gives twin advantages of good defence (units fortifed on a hill) and a very large boost to income in the first few turns (something like 5 gold from your...
And to think I dropped history half-way through school. Interesting thread guys, even if it does move of the subject of the game a little. I for one would like to see some new tribes in the expansion and the Turks must be near the top of the list for this.
Go the Turks!:goodjob:
Daft as it may sound, play on a higher difficulty. The game is designed so that there is not enough time to do everything yourself. This means that you should trade for at least some of your techs (especially the earlier ones) with the AI rather than dong so yourself. At higher difficulties the...
You can't trade cities in peacetime if you have installed the patch. This was 'fixed' as the AI was buying cities at far to high a price which made the game too easy.
After patch you can stil give cities away for nothing or demand them for nothing. You can also demand them as part of a peace...
I war often in the late industrial and modern age and always as democracy (once I get it, I stick to it). The groundwork for this is laid in the earlier ages, where I agressively expand before stopping when I get democracy. This give me a large country with many large cities. Loads of money and...
City trading was 'fixed' in the patch. See elsewhere on the pages for details of why. To summarize though, the computer was giving too much away in peacetime for crummy cities pre-patch. Now you can only negotiate for them as part of a peace deal.
You can give cities away for free at any...
I can't say for sure, but I have set a jet fighter up on air superiority while on a stationary carrier. It was however never atacked by aircraft so I've no idea whther or not it is effective! I'll do some experimentation in my current game and let you know.
Before the patch, you could trade cities and the AI rated them extremely highly (an attempt to stop players from buying cities). Unfortunately, this cut both ways and it was found that the AI would give away enormous sums of money and techs etc. in return for some naff piece of land in the...
1) I typically take a very non-religious path in my games. I don't find religious civs to be essential, although they are very handy! I normally spend most or all of the BC and up to 500AD as despot. During this time, two of my cities are on pop rush and I build swordsmen or equally good units...
