    NEVER Build Walls!

Yeah, I guess if you can whip a wall into a city that already has many defenders, and definitely has attackers coming, I can see it in that special circumstance. IF they do bombard you first. *I* don't waste time with with bombardment because it's way too slow. That raises the interesting...

    NEVER Build Walls!

Nopeola. No walls! Nyet. That's because you can spend the shields on units instead. You can use those units to discourage attackers, beat back attacks more effectively, and go on the attack. Meanwhile, because all civs expand, at least at the beginning, you end up having to build walls...

    The Emin Pasha Relief Expedition

...yeah, I can where giving all the actors motivation to move right would be tough. I wonder if it'd even be feasible in Civ4. Almost as tough as Stanley's job, or reading the *&^%&^ River War (it was written before Churchill learned to write well - the bits about trains were excellent, but...

    Attacking another continent...fact or myth?

I've been doing cross-continental invasions since my first Civ game (civ2). Of course, civ2 made it easy by giving battleships the ability to attack and fully destroy land units. If you got BBs early, then, you could start looking forward to owning alot of coastline with little more difficulty...

Is CIV a Chinese economy showroom?

The analogy to China is interesting - certainly, the lack of governmental change is spot-on.... Inflation should happen both on inputs and outputs - e.g., because taxation is modeled as a percentage of output, tax revenues should rise with inflation. You could run a static economy for a...

    Bug Reports

I just tried 153, and got a nasty, immediate failure: on the first turn, I was told I was defeated, bye-bye,Queen "Dan Quayle" Victoria! My Civ version is 1.6x. I tried three different games, in two different game instances, as Egypt, England, and Rome. No change.

    'Realer' Mod, v1.0 2016-10-05

'Realer' Mod, v1.0 (This mod is for Civ4 1.62. I don't have Warlords.) This is a standard big world map, using seriously altered rules, intended to make it more like the real world. The changes have the downside of decreasing play balance, because successful civilizations do grow more...

    World War 2 -Global Conflict

A note about the oil - I've just been reading Rise and Fall of the 3rd Reich, so I remember how it was. Oil wasn't so much of a problem at the beginning of the war for Germany, because Rumania had oil (that oil and probably the Balkan countries other than the extinct Czechoslovakia need to...

    Most useless unit?

For me, carriers are less useful than Explorers. I've been playing on fractal and archipelago maps, so Explorers are useful when you get the caravel. Carriers, though...eh. I usually play for Domination, and I'd rather spend the resources on extra fighters, because you can ALWAYS find an...
