LAST NIGHT IN SOHO. First half or so was quite good. A lot of choices were made in the second I'm not sure I agree with but still a good film overall. 3.5/5

WHITE NOISE. I walked away from it not quite sure how I felt, but after thinking on it more and more, I really liked it. Very idiosyncratic; the kind of movie where you decide early on if you're in or out, probably around the time Hitler and Elvis share a scene. Can't believe Netflix gave...

New Greatest Film of All Time

Agreed, in Hitchcock's best films (Vertigo, Rear Window, Psycho, etc.) you can enjoy it on the surface, but also appreciate some of the deeper messaging he's going for. I love Jaws, Indiana Jones, etc., but it's just not the same. Really, they're almost like two different genres. Hitchcock is...

    Defeating the Right:Generational Shift?

Precisely this. Conservatives can never be "defeated", they'll just evolve in contrast to the next progressive cause du jour. Views considered "progressive" today may very well seem conservative in 10-20 years

Yes, I was referring to aesthetics rather than character. Didn't mean to imply otherwise, sorry for any confusion

New Greatest Film of All Time

I think Metropolis is there not necessarily for the quality of its effects but for its design incorporating expressionism and futurism in a dystopian environment. For example, you can see influences of Metropolis in Blade Runner, and then Blade Runner proceeded to influence the movies that come...

New Greatest Film of All Time

Virgin Spring is incredible, and I own a copy, but man is that scene tough to watch (understandably so). The film holds up though, its themes still resonant. Honestly, I think it's actually drifting into underrated territory nowadays It's Throne of Blood for me. Feels like another bizarre...

Continued spoilers for BLOW OUT: In other news, on my De Palma binge, I watched DRESSED TO KILL. And oh my has this movie's plot aged poorly. I want to give it a 4/5 for its technical aspects and how it iterates on Hitchcock but I can't blame people for rating it more poorly on account of its plot

I also find the Get Out inclusion baffling. Not to say it's bad or anything, but I don't see how it's better than the horror films they left out in its place. Also, I believe this decade's list is actually more US-centric than the last. Somewhat ironic, considering I believe they expanded the...

New Greatest Film of All Time

I have seen Jeanne Dielman. It's almost 3.5 hours and I believe features just 5 characters. It's an intentionally slow (shot in real time at parts) look into the mundanity of a housewife, who has a job on the side as a prostitute. The movie just follows her life as it very gradually unravels...
