What's the best way to fix horsemen?

Instead of nerfing the horsemen, increase the base strength of spears and pikes to 8 and 12 respectively, and make the cities harder to take. What if you had to kill the garrison before the city itself started taking damage? The garrison could receive a fortification bonus of e.g. 50%, or 100%...

What's the best way to fix horsemen?

I say leave the horses as they are. If the AIs prefer to build wonders, settlers and scouts instead of spears and horsemen of their own, that's their problem and not mine. Last game I defeated Alexander around 0 AD (with horses of course). He had only his capital, with horses connected, and...

Firaxis failed at difficulty levels - no ranting!

My point was that an "experienced" AI would have an idea of what you are going to build and do even before it can see your units and actions. When horsemen appear it may already be too late. Civ is supposed to be in the forefront of interactive entertainment, so it should have the most fancy...

Firaxis failed at difficulty levels - no ranting!

Very good point - AIs with neural network models for learning through experience exist in e.g. industrial robots. It would be interesting to see such a model implemented in a game like Civ. In that way the AI would learn and adjust to the patterns of the human player, forcing a more varied...

Would you go to war against the Holy Roman Landsknecht?

Pikes and LKs in good defensive positions may have good odds against attacking cavalry. However, the LK's melee bonus contributes nothing in this situation, while e.g. a strength 8 pike would have been outstanding.

Would you go to war against the Holy Roman Landsknecht?

I want a Pike to defend against mounted and nothing else. Extra strength or extra bonus against mounted (e.g. a free Formation promo) would have been better.

Not-So-Useful units, buildings, GPs and wonders

Norway (not-so-useful civ) Automatically takes the leader of a neighbouring civ as their leader. Stavkirke (not-so-useful UB) UB for the Norwegian civ - replaces Temple. +1:culture: , +1:), +10% :gold:. 1%/round chance of burning down. Cost: 2 forests. Peasant Draftee (not-so-useful...

    What's your worst military disaster?

Chariot-rushing Pacal after seeing he had no copper  Holkans all over the place, killing most of my chariots and then going for my capital using the road I had built. I had no copper either but researched archery soon enough to survive.

What is the best unit to attack cities protected with Longbowmen?

Wow, necrobumping exactly 4 years after the last post :) We now have trebs to deal with difficult LBs.

Initial Rush - Evaluation of Early Game Wars

Even on pangea maps I'd say the addition of 10% extra CR + no penalty for attacking across rivers to one of the game's key units is a decent bonus. It becomes worthless only if you normally don't build (or upgrade to) maces. Besides, the dual-axe combat animation is hilarious... :crazyeye:

Initial Rush - Evaluation of Early Game Wars

An early Marine with CR promotions available is worthless? On Archipelago/Island maps it's so strong it's almost broken. On Continents maps use it like a regular mace while taking over your continent, then upgrade to grenadiers for surprising and devastating overseas attacks with...

Real World in civ 4 population demographics

Unless, of course, you WB the BFC a little... Just finished an OCC game with a 39-pop city = 27+ millions :)
