Usually I play either the Terrans or a custom race, though I've played a couple of maps as the Drengin when I felt like cutting loose and steamrolling everything in my path. :D (It's just such a pity Terror Stars didn't make it into this one...)

That' a complaint I had too...I'm hoping Stardock will give us a way to reset them back to default in a future update. In the meantime the only solution I've found is here:http://tgnforums.stardock.com/?ForumID=162&AID=102631

Have you tried running it in window mode? That might help you avoid the Alt+Tab problem, at least.

Matthew, AI set at 'Intelligent' plays the game with no advantages or disadvantages. Above that it starts to cheat, and below that it's been crippled in various ways. Edit: beat me to it ;)

I think what Blazer was getting at was that farms increase the population cap. On a crappy planet, more population=more unhappy people.

Um...you do realize that you're not forced to use Stardock, right? It's just for those of us who want to download the game directly...IMHO it's a little unfair to judge a game on the grounds of disliking a completely optional program that you only come in contact with if you choose to download...
