So why was their federal action to maintain slavery in Southern States? If ya, know, it should have been a state decision.

Could the World exist today in its current form without slavery?

Looking back at history, Slavery or forced labor without payment has been around seemingly forever in one form or another. Is there anyway the world could have developed into what it is today without it? I mean developed in terms of advances, growth from physical labor used to build things and...

Why exactly did Saddam Hussein invade Kuwait?

So hoiw much of this tied into the US reasons for invading Iraq 10 years later? From what I am hearing, the tensions between Saddam and the Kurds had been brewing since after WWI. And what was Kuwait's position as it related to the US invasion of Baghdad?

Why did neither the U.S. nor U.S.S.R ever invade Cuba?

Russia would have started a nuclear war if the U.S invaded Cuba?

Why did neither the U.S. nor U.S.S.R ever invade Cuba?

Just curious about opinions on this. After Castro took power in 59, at one point he had strained relations with both Russia and the U.S. Why did neither of those countries ever invade the island? And the Bay of Pigs didn't count :p

Was John Paul II the best Pope of the last few centuries?

Well, I guess we would have to get a definition of greatest Pope but I supposse for this thread, who advanced the mission of th church the most and who got the most accomplished. This is kinda actually more of a "teach me About John Paul and other Popes" but has he had the greates impact of...
