    How balanced are the ideologies?

How balanced are the ideologies? I've been wondering about this for a while, and I always either seem to go for Freedom or Autocracy, but I know that Order can be powerful. Not all tenets are created equal, but chances are you usually won't take more than 7, maybe 8 or 9 tenets in any given...

    Most annoying AI(s)

Wu Zetian is a royal pain. Highly deceptive, and even though we're rarely next door neighbors, she's always screwing with my friends come the Renaissance when she can spam her CKNs. That and if I'm in the lead, she loves to propose banning a single-copy luxury I have. She just seems to spite me...

    Population / land shoot up

Population isn't linear and you can get some kind of strange numbers. He may have grown and hit a ruins pop. I have a sneaking suspicion that land similarly is also not linear, but he also could be playing as the Shoshone.

One incredible city or 2 really good cities?

Post the save or a screenshot (F12) so we can have some more information. I'd lean towards having the better capital, since you get that observatory by moving. Your second city might have some iron and horses for trading anyway.

How far away can the CS and AI players be?

Those frigates are really going to help you smash Assyria

    Civilization 5 Rants Thread

Be more selective in where you settle, prioritize luxury techs and improving them, and build circuses, stone works and colosseums, and at least get friendly with mercantile City States. Planting a city eats 4 global happiness, so you should try to settle your new cities in places where you have...

Hollow victory on BNW at King level (mod request)

The simple solution is to disable Diplo victory, or to play on Emperor or above with Alexander in your game as an opponent... then diplo victory won't be quite so certain.

    Abusing the AI

I did it because it was 3 hours past when I wanted to go to bed and I just wanted to end the game as quickly as I could. Just because I recognize that something is cheesy doesn't mean I won't prevent myself from doing it. I try to not do stuff like stealing workers from city states though...

    Abusing the AI

So, I just wrapped up an Emperor game after a fierce struggle keeping a gunboat diplomacy Greece from winnning the World Leader vote for two rounds as a Freedom Korea. I was playing on a standard sized tiny islands map, so my science wound up being a bit nerfed because I was only able to get my...

    Bugged world congress voting.

I'm stuck on "assign delegates", not 100% sure why. However, only 1 proposition is possible, and the other has been taken away. I think the probable case is that Washington proposed to embargo Shaka, and then he wiped Shaka out, but then I revived Shaka. Do you think this is why/has somehting...

best desktop for under $300 for civ 5?

Hey, if you do it right you can get a decent used laptop for about $300. There's more to life than Word and Civ, you know. Laptops using Core 2 cpus are pretty capable of doing some development work. Nothing heavy, but not *that* terrible. IMO, gaming on a laptop is still a bad idea, though...

How often do you actually lose on higher difficulty levels?

I also found it increasingly boring until I tried that first Immortal game. Boy was that a shocker, it can actually get really exciting, especially when you're actually getting your butt handed to you're in a stalemate on a 3 front defensive war at sea and land.

Civilization at the Intl. History Olympiad

IIRC, playing with cheats on in Civ 2 will be identified in the game once someone turns them on, and you could easily let the players know that.. As for Civ V, I know you have to modify one of the XML files, so you can just do a quick checksum on that file. As for saves and reloads, my feeling...

How often do you actually lose on higher difficulty levels?

Well, I'm 2 for 2 now on Immortal, and this one was significantly easier. Played as the Inca this time, again on Pangaea. I think what helped me a lot this time was not having such a crowded start, which let me expand as I normally would, winding up with 4 excellent cities. I only started two...

How often do you actually lose on higher difficulty levels?

Speaking of reloads, I actually almost didn't win the game because it kept crashing everytime Theodora completed the Manhattan project. So at one point I reorganized my units a few turns before she completed it on her border and bought a second nuke in that city, and then it crashed on that turn...
