Hmmm....tough right now. But I just finished a really great game a few days ago in Civ4. Give me one more week with Civ5 before I really make up my mind. I like it a lot...except for the AI.
AI is most definitely the weak spot for the new release. All the talk in the videos and podcasts about AI made me think my first game should be on Prince difficulty, so that's what I did. It felt like I was playing chieftan on Civ4 as far as AI challenge. I will probably just start a new game...
Last night I just finished an epic-timed monarch game I have been taking little bites out of the past couple weeks and won with a tech victory as the Persians.
I put on perm alliances (I have no idea why I did that), which almost bit me in the ass close to the end when the two largest AI...
For me, it's math. If the mission range of a fighter is 8 tiles, then that's a maximum of 16 tiles of movement. So why does it make sense to only let them re-base within those 8 tiles when re-basing is a one-way trip? Making it 16 seems to be completely intuitive and obvious to me.
That gameplay video from Gamespot was not credence to much except to show you how well scripted that marketing spiel was.
At the outset, Park says they're playing in the "modern era". The date says "Turn 0 1977 BC". Ummm...yeah. It was a total set-up just to show off a couple things, and...
If you want to find out more stuff like that, just hit up any of the wikis or the official site which contains features, etc. Also check out the 2-hour playthrough (half of it from the start of a new game and the other half in the middle of a war in the middle-game) which was recorded live...
Siege units, even in history, were always meant to be very powerful. And they will be in Civ5, but no one in their right mind would spam siege engines in the game, because they take up resources. Resources that should be used on strong melee support like swordies and riders.
Swordsmen do require iron, but iron deposits (and other strategic deposits) vary in size. If you control one that has 4 Iron early in the game, then you can build up to 4 Swordsmen, or a combination of any units that need iron up to 4 times.
As far as what other units need from strategic...
We'll have to play together, since I am with you 100% on your last statement there.
And I think that the majority of online players are not like MGT, so any mainly-casual players that want to get together for a game, I'm with ya.
My point is that if MGT is playing the game multiple times a day using only one strategy to achieve the same goal (MP rankings) then it's just like any job one has IRL. I guess I don't want my games to feel like jobs. I feel sorry for those who do so, and tie their performance of such games to...
So MGT tells everyone they're not using their imagination or exploring enough "tangents" while only really touting one (what he thinks is) good strategy. Where is the imagination?
Really though, MGT. If you're only playing with the purpose to climb some MP ladder (really big deal...
