The most you've ever gotten from a GM

Onagan, you should have. 9700±200 is the correct way to write, even for you. If you use ± as "around" then you need to add the amount to add or distract. If you meant "around 9700" then, as stated, we Swedes would have to write: 9700±200 or ~9700.

    Atheism as Religion

As I see it: Many of the arguments here are along the lines of "atheism hasn't played a role, so it shouldn't be included". Still, Civ includes a lot of "future" technologies. Atheism is one such thing. It's only just now starting to become large. That it is a recent phenomena doesn't...

    International languages

Swahili, because I live in Africa. Sheesh, some of you are a bit narrow minded. Just because YOU speak English doesn't mean it's the only way to go. Post WWII America had a huge advantage and grew into the dominating superpower but the end of the century. But that is changing now, soon China...

    Atheism as Religion

Why not? The religious ones gives some benefits, but should bring along with them a severe science penalty, as well as some other cons. And with the theory of evolution you'll unlock atheism (which of course existed before that) which gives a boost to science, while you lose the benefits...

Civilization is based on the history of the Earth...

China wins based on having most people and by far the fastest growth. Every day that passes makes them one step closer to world dominance. As of now they're still not dominating the world financely, but that day will come soon in this rate. Euro-countries soon being a bigger power than the US...

    Learning english

Playing computer games can be a very good way to learn english, yes! I myself took my first steps towards understanding english by playing "Kings Quest". Although there's not as much text to be read in Civ, it still will help your progress I guess. Learning english from forums isn't the best...

    Greece

Nor should you look for any historical facts. That film is TOTALLY made up and gives a lot of people a TOTAL misunderstanding of what really went down. Also: WHY it happened. Read Marathon by Tom Holland instead. For instance Leonidas wasn't the only king Sparta had at that moment, nor...

Does Civ need a regulatory system?

I vote: Yes. At least in a more indirect way. As someone pointed out, it ought to be fixed by upping the risk of civil war etc. I'm thinking faster conquering but at a higher cost. Conquering foreign lands is easy, but keeping them is hard. There's a reason why ethnic cleansing exists.

    New Combat

Zoom in: No. Take tactical control: No. Modify battles somehow: Yes perhaps. I've played every civ since the beginning, and battles HAVE improved without taking away what is Civ. Still, fighting IS a weak point for the series. It might be nice to modify battles somehow. But as some has already...

Why is there global warming in Civ IV?

bds is just using the same argumentation methods that are used by religious people to deny science in general. Smoke screens, half lies and denying everything. That's cool. :) Apart from that, climate change is a fact. Global warming is a theory. That is: We KNOW that the planet is heating up...

Known Bug burning great person for Tech?

Are you sure that the great person *completed* the research? They only give a certain amount of beakers. For advances later in the game you will only get parts of the research. Most likely you missed out on that and only got 2000 out of 4000 research needed!

    Top 5 cities

Mmm, but I am not talking NUMBER of, I'm talking about HOW great they are. If you conquer them all, then they'll be revolting and in a generally bad state. Not as a city that you've controlled for eternity. Make it so that foreign citizens doesn't count or whatever. That way it'll hugely...

    Top 5 cities

I think that score should include top5 cities. Give something for us peaceful empire-builders. If you have 3/5 of the worlds greatest cities, then you ought to score well! :)

Is not massive conquest a bit boring?

I agree. Up the cost of big armies abroad. A campain ought to COST. That way you can't roll over the entire world... but need to stop and "catch your breath" every once in a while. Myself I tend to be peaceful. I want to see my empire prosper and grow. Going to war tends to ruin this quite a...

    The scenarios with warlords.

Also includable in Roman tech tree: Factories, water pumps (for mines) etc. We knew more then that we know now of what we knew then. Hah.
