I was just 10 turns away from finishing my last component. Damn, that's frustrating. I had two cities that were legendary, too, so I was close to winning on that. I'm tired of timed victories!!!!
Oh well, maybe next time......

So when you have a military unit on a tile that means they don't get anything from it? That works for me. (Or, in beginner lingo, 'the little white circle' is gone?)
Can your military units destory improvement to tiles, or just Units and cities?

No, I thought tanks would work for bombarding. Dumb, eh? When you're bombarding the city I assume you can mouse-over it to see what effect your bombarding is doing?
I usually just put them in the city with the most hammers so they'll get built faster.
But I was perusing this board and saw something talking about 'was this city the best place to put this wonder' and, well, it made me wonder.
There are a lot of subtleties to this game aren't there...
I just got a time win on my 3rd game. I think the 'cultural win' on my 2nd was kind of an accident. One thing about my games...they're peaceful. Pretty much nobody fights.
This last game I built up half a dozen tanks to watch them get clobbered by guys with muskets and bows and arrows...
I'm playing in 1280x1024 because at 1600x1200 I can't read the fonts - everything is so small. Even at 1280 it's pretty hard for me to read (yes, I'm using my 'computer game-playing glasses!).
Is there anyway to bump up the size of the fonts in the game?
Thanks for any information...
That was another question - can you tell what difficulty level a game is on after you're started it? I think I was maybe three up from 'Settler'.
I've done some micro-managing of the white circles before, but the information you've given me has allowed me to take it to a new level. (Ultra...
I don't think the blue circles take into account your neighbors.
I recently built two cities several tiles away from the 'blue circles' so I could a) prevent the persians from getting copper, and b) block the persians ability to expand.
Wow. Thank you for that very helpful post. This is very different from how I thought it worked. As I read your description it says to me there is no point in improving a tile outside the fat cross? Because it can't be worked and you only gets benefits from tiles being worked?
It seems...
Basic question, I know. I'm trying to get a handle on the whole 'managing your cities' thing and I'm not sure I have the basics down.
I go to the city screen and see the FPC on each tile. If I have a white circle on that tile, that means a city person is 'working' that tile and I'm getting...
I have C4 installed. If I install WL can I then play the original (or 'vanilla' as I believe the nomenclature has it) and get the original game just as it is pre-WL install?
If I put in my C4 CD and start up that game, will it still have WL traits like Vassals, more warlike AI, new leaders...
Two of my Hindu cities have been converted to Judaism. I assume their was a missionary involved.
Really, what's the impact? Should I care?
And if someone has 'missionary' bombed one of my cities, is there any way to get it back?

I'm just starting and know what? It's a hard game. So many things to keep track of. I think maybe they should call it, 'Sid Meir's everything but the Kitchen Sink'. Unless 'kitchen sink' is under 'Research prepare food'.
I just finished my 2nd game (I got the tar kicked out of me the first time). I won a cultural victory 18 turns before the end of the game. Seriously, everybody loved me. They were defecting like, well, people who really wanted to defect.
There was no combat in this game. Someone started...
