There's a small border friction diplo hit, right? I think it's "Our close border spark tensions" or something like that. Could you make that larger? You would still have larger animostiy between bordering civs with different religions, but we might see more border wars between same religion civs...
Right, and the Voortrekkers were decended from colonists who came predominantly from the Netherlands. I suppose it could be conditional on any civ colonizing the area, but it would definitely be odd for Boer Republics to pop up without anyone ever settling the cape.
With the Iberia proposals, keep in mind that any prosoals wtih the goal of bringing things more in proportion to the rest of Europe sound like exactly the kind of "cascading" that Leoreth has said he wants to avoid. If the relative size of Iberia to rest of the Europe is a concern for anyone, I...
True! Really, if you look at any society in detail, you will find it does not fit perfectly into the categories we use to describe societies. Even less in the categories we use for civics in a game!
On the whole democracy vs republic debate:
First of all, democracy does not mean direct democracy. That's why we have those two terms. Democracy just means government by the people, directly OR through representatives. The word republic, in its broadest meaning, just means not-a-monarchy. These...
This post says that alt+z and shift+alt+z cycle you through the current civs (in either direction). I think there is another shortcut to select which civ you want from a drop-down menu, but I can't remember it, and I've only used it in RoM AND, so it might not be available in DoC.
Edit: the...
Pretty sure that 1.6 is the current stable release. If you are interested in being on the development version (updated more frequently but higher likelihood of bugs), go to the 3rd post in the 'Welcome to Dawn of Civilization' thread for instruction on getting onto the most recent version via Git.
What effect does import vs export have in the game? I've never really understood it, and I mostly play RoM AND these days, which replaces the trade mechanic. Is there actually a negative consequence for having low import/export rate?
This is also going away as Leo rewrites the rise and fall mechanics. The whole "respawn as a different some-what related civ" thing is just a work around.
Honestly, it would be hilarious if you just declared Arabia the winner even though it is not on the poll. Isn't that what we're collectively voting for by creating a Byzantine-Persia contest? lol
What about just adding having some number of vassals to the 3rd goal? It makes it a bit harder, represents the influence China had over other nearby civilizations during their peak periods, and avoids adding a convoluted wonder.
True, but couldn't we have the flip area be smaller than the core and provide more units for conquest? Doesn't work if the conquest is supposed to be super fast in game time, but maybe it would be good for the Ottomans?
That's a fair point. Although if there are more Indigenous civs then there will be more to interact with. After all, very few, if any, of these civs were actually completely isolated. But the problem remains that any civ with mostly internal accomplishments will probably have UHVs that don't...
If I remember correctly, a path opens to Iceland when you discover compass. You can then hop to North America by building a city in Iceland. It's tight, but it should be doable.
