I think I fixed it (fingers crossed). What I did was specify launch options in Steam, namely: ini=d:\civ4.ini This seems to have fixed the issue - whether it was a permissions issue or a directory-name-length issue, I'm not sure, but it works now :).

Well darn. I thought I had it for a while - came across another suggestion on a board that said the problem might be with over-long directory paths to the ini file, so I moved my My Docs temporarily to see if it fixed it. It seemed to have done so - I was playing in a 1680*1050 window happily...

Hey, got a bit of a confusing issue that I can't seem to get around. Basically the Windowed option in Civ IV (Vanilla/BTS/Warlords) won't stick at all. I used to be able to play the games just fine in a Window on my PC (i7 920 w/ATI 5870) but now I can't get the windowed option to be remembered...
