Connecting to Host/Peer

Hey guys, I am behind a router and I'm wondering why I can't connect to anyone hosting a game through direct IP or Gamespy. Usually I just can't host online games through my router but I can't connect to anything Civ 4 related at all. Are there certain ports I can forward? I don't even know if...
