    turn down barbarians

In vanilla, the benefit to having lots of barbarians was that they were fairly useful in keeping the Ancient/Classical era expansion of AI civilizations in check, which in turn makes the game a bit easier. Is that still the case in Brave New World?

    Proposed new unit upgrade paths

Forgot to mention my idea for the Scout "line". I'd like to see it branch off into reconnaissance airborne vehicles, which could eventually be upgraded into the traditional Fighter air superiority line.

    Proposed new unit upgrade paths

I think it's kind of silly to have strictly linear upgrade paths for military units, I liked how Civilization IV allowed players to choose what unit to upgrade into in certain circumstances, like upgrading a Musketman and having to choose between a Rifleman and a Grenadier. In Civilization V...

    Early wars

Hmmm...that's a bit vague to me. Let me see if I really understand what was just said. Cities in BNW do not generate gold unless they are connected to the capital, right? I'm fairly confident you weren't talking about international trade routes, after all. Furthermore, in BNW, tiles...

New players, looking for some answers

I don't know if this works in Gods and Kings or Brave New World, but one way to prevent Greece or any other runaway gagillionaire civilization from spam buying Allied status from city states that you've been Allied with for the majority of the game is to declare war on a civilization that has a...

    Early wars

Huh, go fig. :: shrugs :: The theoretical part of me is wondering "Percentage of what? Total number of cities conquered that were founded by Civ X/total number of cities founded by Civ X? Total number of cities conquered/total number of cities founded by everyone?" However, the cynic in...

How many civs/map type do you play?

I dislike how long it takes to complete a game of Civilization V. I prefer Pangaea, because it shortens the amount of turns (and time!) it takes to successfully complete a game. I don't want to have to research Astronomy (or whatever) to be able to cross the ocean to conquer my enemies. I...

    Early wars

I've never played Brave New World, but I have had some success with early warring in vanilla. The biggest difference that I can see in early warring between BNW and vanilla is the loss of international trade routes when the AI unilaterally denounces you across the board. When you go...

I play III. Which of IV or V solves the "More Cities = Always Better" problem best?

This isn't related to the differences in empire management between Civ IV and Civ V, but Civ V doesn't penalize you for upgrading promoted units in the same way that Civ IV did. What do I mean? In Civ IV, upgrading a unit always reset the unit's experience back to zero, but kept the next...

    Trading or Surrendering Cities

You'll have to forgive me, because I haven't played any of the expansions. World Wonders (I'm assuming Broadway is a World Wonder) are preserved when you keep a conquered city. National Wonders are NOT preserved when you keep a conquered city. I don't know the precise reason, but it...

    Trading or Surrendering Cities

Which buildings are preserved when a city is exchanged is a complicated answer. For the purposes of this conversation, "city exchange" encompasses cities acquired through any means other than by settling your own Settler, which means both cities acquired through trade or through conquest...

    Going Tall - attracts warmongers?

I hate to break it to the OP, but pretty much everything attracts warmongers. Going tall? Attracts warmongers looking to be top dog. Going short and narrow? Attracts warmongers looking for easy pickings. Being diplomatic at all costs? Attracts warmongers looking for suckers. Being a...

    Newbie question

I still haven't played the latest expansions, but here goes... The game will never tell you explicitly how many hit/health point a particular unit/city has remaining. However, there is a colored meter next to a city/unit that will give you the relative health of the entity in question...

How do you keep with the AI on King? I just can't seem to do it.

Absolutely. World Wonder Whoring is one of the hardest habits to break in Civilization, but curbing it is the most straightforward way to succeed on harder difficulties.

    Whats up with Russia?

The OP is amazed that the Russia AI has so much spare happiness after the expansion, not that the expansion itself took place.
