    Civ 1 city placement help

I'd probably go with something like this, but I always play builder and go for a space race victory and these spots kind of reflect that. If by 'domination' you mean world conquest, you could cram a few more cities closer together and keep them small and pumping units. Right now, your...

    One City Challenge help

It's usually a coin toss on Emperor unless you use some luck manipulation, but it's actually pretty easy on lower difficulties, as the AI builds, grows and researches slower than the player as opposed to faster. To prove a point, I just banged an OCC game out in under two hours on Prince...

    Miscellaneous questions for veteran players

    1) GoTo is kind of buggy, while fractional moves will indeed sometimes fail, more often on rugged terrain, just like sometimes a 2MP unit will not be able to climb a mountain even with full MP (solution to that is to leave it with just 1MP and move). 2) Nuke kills all naval units in the nine...

Most dangerous Civilizations / Biggest threat Leaders

It might just be observer bias, but in my experience the Zulus seem to be a more fluid and adaptive civ than the other aggressive ones. Less wasteful on war and more likely to switch to higher forms of government when at peace.

Development of CIvilization - Ask your questions

Here's another one: Does the AI sometimes have precognition of battle outcomes before it makes an attack? It obviously knows its odds and uses them to decide whether to attack at all. Very much like a human would, it usually refrains from attacking strong defenders, but in certain situations...

New features added in CivNet (except multiplayer!)

I don't think you ever could (pillage). Moving on enemy improvements is also mostly considered an act of war, unless you unload from a ship (like the AI does) or move a diplomat/caravan/air unit there first.

Development of CIvilization - Ask your questions

Here's a couple, if you get to the original developers: - Civ I appears to be intentionally shrunk in scale. Is this due to hardware limitations, because it would be boring if it was bigger, or both, or neither? - How many people play-tested it while it was in development and how did they get...

Test Your Civ1 Knowledge! Our Civ1 Trivia Page is Operational Again!

Diagonal connections, I guess? But there are also some bugged-out tiles in Australia, IIRC.

    Beer and civ 17

Centuries later, the janitor discovers the remains of your ancient brain cells. Evidence of sprawling neuron networks and a centralized nervous system amaze the startled caretaker. Finally, he comes upon a fossilized clump of ganglia on which he etches with his pocket knife but one mysterious...

Is EEE7 considered a difficult challenge?

I'm pretty sure there are worse starting spots, even on Earth, like if you play with the Babylonians and you have the Mongols, Russians and Greeks around. England on Earth is, however, IIRC, considered to be the hardest one city challenge start, or at least a really hard one.

Granary is OP for computer on Emperor.

I'd argue about that. Distance is only a factor in trade if you need the big one-time bonuses (or if the only good trade cities are far away). But if you want easy to get high-yield trade routes, keeping a small civilized neighbour around can be very profitable. You get all your trade routes up...

    Randomizing leaders traits

It will probably cause other issues, yes, I never tried it. But if you don't use that and you want to have consistently altered AI behavior you can only: A) Randomize leaders a bunch of times every time you reload to get the same traits, or... B) Just keep the PC and the game running all the...

    Randomizing leaders traits

Somebody on here said that they used the save state option of their emulator to keep the randomized values. I don't think regular DOSBox comes with that, but there probably are builds out there that include the option. Google says DOSBox-X has it.

    Overseas expansion

It depends. If the island is close and uncontested, and the land is good enough for the colony to grow by itself (support its own garrison and settlers, build its own improvements), feel free to start early. Almost no logistical cost here. If the island is farther away, needs more terraforming...
