Suddenly, Beta 4 is released. Info in first post.
This version includes K-mod which is still a bit unpolished regarding adaptation to RFCE. This means the AI will not always behave like you're used to but it will all work out in the end.
I think it looks fine actually. And at least on my screen the minimap is rendered at 186x121 which is the same ratio as 146x96 so there's no distortion there. If you turn on free camera and look straight down, or go to globe view, aren't the squares square then?
I like the idea of Wallachia, I would have put it in ++ but the old map just didn't allow it. The last UHV would be in 1600 (union with Transylvania and Moldavia) so there would be some time to mess around.
I'd prefer representing same distance horizontally and vertically. I like to place an ice feature every 10x10 squares and put a corresponding grid on the picture, makes it easier.
I'm not convinced on dividing Germany further either from a historical, or a gameplay perspective. When would Bavaria spawn for example? 1506 seems the most reasonable choice as it is the first time the duchy was united and had some sovereignty, aside from the few years of Henry the Lion's ban...
I intended to release the new version a few days ago but it turns out the initial Kmod conversion was less perfect than I thought. It's currently playable but the AI will need some more tweaking to play the game "right".
Actually a number of important places are in the eastenmost 10 tiles: aside from the Caucasus there's Baghdad, Astrakhan, Sarai and Kazan. Because of the projection we've chosen the northeastern part of European Russia (which would have been useless) is not in the map.
This is a general ideas thread for 2.0, you came to the right place! I just started the discussion off that way.
Your idea is not that difficult to implement and fits thematically, I like it.
For the Mongols I had the idea that they would initially work sort of like in the Warlords...
Brainstorming means exchanging ideas.
I'm sceptical towards more German civs for a number of reasons. Firstly gameplay, we don't want a zillion different civs. Also I don't see any principal difference between for example Bavaria and Swabia the way that there is a difference between Spain...
RFCE 1.0 is out and everyone is happy. However there were lots of things that we wanted to do but was put aside due to time and scope concerns. Some of those things were put into RFCE++ which was developed in parallel, some were simply not possible without drastically reworking the map...
So I didn't finish it last weekend obviously, but now theres just some testing and tweaking to be done. It will have everything that's in 1.0.
Did you finish that Catalan map?
Also, any opinion on whether the Scottish city map should be identical to the English one, in Scots, or in Gaelic...
