The capital has very low commerce. Besides 2 camped Phants the only commerce can come from working the coast. Therefore I'd prioritize Fishing. My tech order probably is AH > Fishing > Mining > BW.
I agree it is not straightforward to find the optimal start here. Settling the PH and build workboats seems a good start. I am not convinced, however, that it is the optimal start. :) I'll be scouting with the settler (SW) and scout(either SW or SE, SW) and then decide.
With regard to our...
There are plenty of river tiles for early commerce, so I am not too worried about losing a gold mine. Especially if it secures me at least 2 decent city spots on a (possibly) crowded map.
If there no farmable resources on the fogged tiles W of the settler then your worker will be farming the FP...
I love playing Mehmed, you could conquer the world with Janisarries paired with Cannons (lib Steel!).
Not sure if I would settle on the coast, with raging barbs i'd rather build units early instead of workboats. The PH 2S of the Cow looks tempting, it could possibly protect 1 or 2 coastal...
I have played a couple of hours of Civ4 BTS on the SD. In short: the game does seem to work flawless (up to turn 55 ;)). Installation is straight forward in "game mode". Two modifications need to made in the game's properties, which works similar as in Steam on PC.
The game plays very well on...
I did some research and found some reports that the game is playable with a little tweaking. "Playable" is a rather broad term, off course. But it seems promising.
I have a SD on order so will definitely try it out. Will keep this thread updated with my findings.
Well, the panther was mostly harmless  The land was pretty good indeed, unfortunately capital was located in the middle of the map.
With no close neighbors and so much land I around cannot see how you can survive this barb onslaught. They enter borders at turn 26.
Vassals or no vassals, I am having a hard time getting a good game out of the gate...
Guess I should prioritize starts that are on the edge of the map. Or roll a bunch of NO BARB maps
I also like settling SE. Mainly because it secures at least 3 great future cities: (1) N or 2N of the Wheat, (2) N or NW of Pig, (3) either SE of Cow or between Cow and Gems (depending on location of cities 1 & 2).
For early settler production both sites seem to give the same yield, assuming...
