I don't have any facts to back it up, but I have noticed that I don't get attacked as much when I have a defensive pact with another strong Civ. Except when Izzy is involved, she doesn't care. If you're a different religion she'll attack anyone and everyone, crazy chick.

As I read through this thread, this reminds me of one of the reasons I really like Civ4 over the previous versions. Each leader has a very distinct personality, so it makes it feel more like your actually playing against somone in SP. I do the same thing with all the leaders when I'm exploring...

I know another thing that prevents you from launching an ICBM is if the city you are targeting has friendly borders inside the 9 squares of death around the city. I wanted to Nuke Catherine's forward city where she had all her units stacked, but one of the squares adjacent to the city itself...

I LMAO when I read this, this was me with the original Civ, up until 6am playing on my roommates computer and forgetting about exams the next day. Not good, but it did get me interested in computers and got me where I am today, so Civ helped me get started in my career!!!!
