: ) Here in Australia most rivers don't get anywhere near the width of the Missippi or Amazon... maybe 20-30m if you're lucky! An 8-lane freeway would probably represent a greater challenge : )

It's not something you should forget... matters less if you're a couple of techs ahead, but it's so worth moving a tile or two to avoid getting an over-river attack penalty when you're trying to take a fortified city...

make them happy... any improvement that gives : ) is worth it... and luxuries. Trade for them, improve them, whatever it takes to get them...

I underestimated catapults until I stopped just bombarding and started attacking... collateral damage : ) Don't like losing units but once I figured out the sacrifice was worth it....

I think Tanman has the best idea... Firaxis do sometimes seem to incorporate ideas like that, the last patch had a few things that addressed gameplay issues...

What do you mean the patch didn't work? The in-game update manager, or the separate download? Did it get halfway and stop, or did you get no improvement in gameplay?

Ghozt, how many times have you tried? When the 1.09 patch came out, I couldn't download it in the first 24-36 hours.... just kept stopping. I tried again later, and it worked fine... Also, Firaxis have said there should be better error reporting now on patch failure - are you getting any messages?

Or, when they find many bugs, they can report all of them and they can all be fixed.... which is what is finally happening : ) : ) Did I mention I'm happy after the 1.52 patch : )

I've had this too, although I haven't played until late game on 1.52 yet, so I don't know if this has been fixed. I'll update later but it sounds like it's not going to have changed yet...

Most laptops or other onboard/mobility VGA solutions use system memory rather than separate VRAM. This cuts costs for the manufacturer, and also takes up marginally less space at the expense of graphics performance (using normal RAM is slower than VRAM/GDDR, and you're using up system memory...

If the 9200 uses shared graphics, upping the laptop's RAM to 1gb should let you use 128mb as video memory instead of 64mb.. which might solve your large map problem. Check the manual, but if this is the case it could be the most cost-effective option...

I always wondered why "check for updates" is an advanced menu item...would have thought it would be down the bottom on the other side to the "exit", or in the main menu.... although "options" are also advanced... hmmm.... Anyway off to try 1.52...

I'd just wait a bit... 1.09 wouldn't d/l for me the day it came out, next day was done in 5min... prob just server overload. edit: and it's great to have a patch before Christmas : )

No haters here, just people that want to play Civ... without bugs. Hopefully the 2nd patch will let that happen : )
