What are the worst game mechanics in Civ4 and how could they be fixed?

So according to you civ 4's defender advantage is just fine and every other game over does it. It's not just civ 5 and 6, it's all of them. Literally every other 4x game made in the history of video games, has a bigger defender advantage. So according to you all games produced overdo defender...

What are the worst game mechanics in Civ4 and how could they be fixed?

I mean, considering that defender advantage is bigger in Civ 5 Civ 6 Galactic Civ GC 2 GC 3 Endless Legend Endless Space Age of Wonders 3 And those are just the 4x games that I've played. I've never played a 4x/TBS game with less defender advantage than Civ 4. Given that, I say Civ 4's...

What are the worst game mechanics in Civ4 and how could they be fixed?

Does it exist as in a non-zero entity? Yes. Is it significant enough to matter outside of cities? No.

What are the worst game mechanics in Civ4 and how could they be fixed?

After putting Civ 4 down for almost a decade, I picked it back up again. It's still an amazing game and I still think it's the best of the series, but many of its concepts are very dated. For example, I find it strange and un-fun that you can have a massive army near a city and your opponent can...

Trying to understand the mechanics of capitulation

I'm going to necro this thread because Civ4 is still the best Civ game ever made and I came back to it after all these years. I do find the AI capitulates rather quickly, which means that AI's can start to become superpowers, but I'm hesitant to turn this off because I find it makes the game...

    K-Mod: Far Beyond the Sword

It's been a very long time since I've played civ 4. I played civ 5 for a while but the AI was never competitive as it can't fight 1UPT rules. I really dislike Civ 6. Everything about it is just really awful and boring to me and I disagree with basically every design decision in it. I've been...

    Do people actually like Eurekas/Inspirations?

Thanks, I'll check them out ;)

    Do people actually like Eurekas/Inspirations?

I'd also like the option to disable Eurekas/inspirations. So it seems that most people think they are a good addition to the game, so I am in the minority... once again. Why do I dislike this new mechanic? I suppose I don't feel that it adds more options for me, I feel that it stifles me. I...

    Do people actually like Eurekas/Inspirations?

It's two words and I have no particular attachment to them, they accurately described what you were doing. OT: It seems to me that the Eureka system is just a band-aid solution to a poorly-designed tech tree. Ideally, there would be many different strategies the player could employ and replay...

    Do people actually like Eurekas/Inspirations?

This is the same tired excuse I always hear. First off, it doesn't excuse laziness. It's like how people use the word "decimated" as a synonym for devastated. In the case of the word "liberal", however, laziness has nearly ruined the word. It originally meant a person who prioritizes the rights...

    Do people actually like Eurekas/Inspirations?

That's hilarious! There's a long list of English words butchered by Americans. One that perpetually annoys me is how Americans use the word "liberals" to refer to people who are left-wing and want a bigger role for government. That is the exact opposite of what a liberal is! JS Mill and Adam...

    Do people actually like Eurekas/Inspirations?

Really? You actually think so? You see, I would say Civ has had the same difficulty problems since Civ 4 and it might go back earlier than that but I didn't pay close attention. What I mean is that the higher difficulties skew the game. Take Civ 5, for example. What changed between King and...

    Do people actually like Eurekas/Inspirations?

False dichotomy. I'm not interested in bringing back Civ 4 combat mechanics, although I will say this for Civ 4 - the game was designed to work with the AI and it achieved its goals. You know there are options other than Civ 5 and 6 board game 1 UPT combat and Civ 4 stack combat, don't you? Do...

    Do people actually like Eurekas/Inspirations?

Yeah you've really hit the nail on the head. Look at Creative Assembly and their Total War series. The latest games are very different in every way from their earliest games, but that change happened incrementally over time. If you take one game in the series and compare it to the next, they are...

    Do people actually like Eurekas/Inspirations?

Well, going by that logic, why does population grow by filling up a food bucket? Why do we complete soldiers by working a random mine to fill up the hammer bucket? It's a game, not a science simulator. And even if we were trying to build a science simulator, this would be a terrible, awful one, imo.
