Art Museums do give you Great Artist points, and in most culture-focused playthroughs you'll have works of art from Great Artists much earlier than you will have Artifacts from Archaeologists, so you'll need Art Museums to take advantage of those art Great Works.

If you have at least once city that can generate missionaries and apostles of an opposing religion, use that to spread that religion to at least half your cities, then keep apostles camped inside your cities (so they can't be attacked and killed) ready to re-convert if the dominant religion ever...
