    Can't Build Offshore Platforms

Even though I have Plastics (and mined oil) and all my cities are built on the coast, the build icon for Offshore Platforms does not appear, preventing me from building them. Is this a bug? This is the first Warlords game I have played (am now up to the year 2000 A.D.) OS is Windows XP...

You can BUILD a mine on those hills and a resource may later appear (not from the mining but from discovering a new technology), but if you don't build another city whose "fat cross" area includes the mine, the mine will never operate and you will never be able to take advantage of the resource...

Although I see how much a trade route is earning for each of my cities, I don't see how much it is earning for the foreign city with which I am trading. So how can I determine whether establishing such trade routes (i.e., establishing Open Borders) would benefit my civilization more than the...

A few turns ago Russia, with whom I have Open Borders and have had trade routes established for centuries, decided to switch to Mercantilism, which, as I understand it, is supposed to forbid all foreign trade. However, I noticed that my trade routes with Russia continue as before; that is...

Thanks for your answer, but I'm still puzzled over this. We are now in the 1850s, and I see that the other civs have many surplus resources. Yet not a single one of them lists any of them as "tradable" according to my Foreign Advisor (F4, under RESOURCES), whereas dozens of mine are listed as...

    Quick Answers / 'Newbie' Questions

Some previous Civ games allowed us to create Engineers and discover technologies that allowed us to transform landscapes (irrigating deserts, changing hills into grasslands and mountains into hills, etc). I haven't found any way to do this in Civ4; thus deserts and mountains and ice squares...

I am playing my first game of Civ4. Former Civ games allowed me to see what technologies the rival civilizations had already learned once I had established diplomatic contact with them (via a diplomat). I haven't been able to find a method in Civ4 to see rival Civs' technologies. Is it...

I'm now playing my first game of Civ4 -- Settler Level -- France (Louis IV)against four rival civilizations (India, Rome, Egypt, and Russia). Am now in the mid 18th century. Am able to see their resources and note that they have multiple items of different resources. I have Open Borders with...

How Best to Uninstall Classic Civ II?

Mercator (or anyone who knows) -- OK. So I have decided to keep Classic Civ2 on my hard drive. Now what do I need to do in order to install Civ2 MGE so that it won't conflict with the Classic Civ2 that's already installed in the C:\mps\Civ2 folder? According to the installation...

QtNotify Error Message Under Windows 98

Yes, it was a QuickTime error, caused by an old version of the QT Viewer (used to view an old Civ2 ReadMe file). I just updated QT to the newest version, and the problem disappeared.

QtNotify Error Message Under Windows 98

I was just thinking that a file beginning with the letters Qt might be a QuickTime, not an Indeo, video file. What do you think?

Thanks for the advice, Mercator. Keeping the Classic along with the MGE sounds great! :D

QtNotify Error Message Under Windows 98

Thanks, Elephant. No, I didn't update the video drivers. I just installed whatever files came on the original v. 1.0 CD and then updated it with the 2.42 patch. Do I have to uninstall Classic Civ II before I install the new video drivers?
