I remember one time I played Earth 18 map as Egypt. Decent food land there and a lot of space.. but at some point, the barbarians will just start comming at you in waves because of all the empty land to the south.
Usually I build 1-2 warriors so my pop can grow to size 2, then I build a worker. May not be the best, but at least this way I can get a few more units out and spawn bust the barbarian animals while I rapid expand with worker chop to build settlers.
Also increases the chances of finding those...
If there is a lot of open space between you and your neighbours, there's plenty of barbarian spawning happening. Just have a few warriors waltz around your territory or have them fortify on hills that reveal a lot of fog and you should have a much easier time.

I can see advantages with Holkan at higher levels but I'm only a Monarch player so I found Impi really useful at times. Not every time, but if they are spamming mounted units....:mischief:
Wow... so there's like 3 people around me.... if there's one thing that really bugs me, it's being surrounded by civs and getting squished.. but that's part of the challenge. This should be an interesting game. xD xD
