[BTS] Spain, early religion, stone, marble - how to play this start?

The year is now 1560. Every city on my continent is Hindu, and me, Lizzy and Cyrus are all Friendly with each other, and have defensive pacts. It is a place of love and wonder indeed! On the other continent, however, we have Genghis Khan, Julius Cesar, Hammurabi and Wang Kon. Predictably, it is...

[BTS] Spain, early religion, stone, marble - how to play this start?

Thanks for the replies. I know that early religion is usually a mistake, but randomly drawing Spain with a horsehockey capital calls for an unusual strategy. And the thing about the random map scripts are that they can produce entire worlds of horsehockey city locations. So I played on. Making two...

[BTS] Spain, early religion, stone, marble - how to play this start?

(Emperor difficulty, BAT mod) So, I started a game with everything random, including Civ. I rolled Spain. I have stone and marble nearby. Not a lot of resources on the map, but a ton of forest. And Lizzy and Cyrus to the North. Normally, religion is a very low priority for me, I mostly just...

There are no 2 food tiles in the first ring of Copperville, so I decided to sink hammers into a worker until the border pops. Then working the clams, while building a workboat, whipping it at pop 2, then using overflow for the worker. Was that a mistake? Sheepy Pillow is pop 1 due to 2 settler...

Whip, chop, dodge animals... The first settler founds the marble/clams/copper city. It starts producing a worker. I try scouting the NE cow, but the animals make it hard. It seems like dry grassland, though there is a copper tile. Where should I place the third city? I lean towards the plains...

Yeah, I will be growing the capital to size 4. Only 3 turns, and this also gives me a second warrior to scout the NE cow. The worker definitely should chop, but bronze working is only just in. I will put off deciding between lit and optics until Fishing and The Wheel is done. I need both anyhow.

Build one warrior, send him scouting to the East. Ocean. As Gumbolt writes, there seems to be Ocean to the South and East, tundra and mountains to the North, perhaps a single good city site to the NorthEast, and some poor land to the West, which does, however, have an abundance of cows and...

The brave scout moves clockwise, uncovering no less than 7 sources of ivory. That's a lot of trunk, as my dear wife remarked when she saw. The scout beats off a lion, and spends some time healing. The city is building a warrior. Research: Bronze Working. The scout is done farming the corn...

Yes, random script. No exclusions, so I might have anything from a small and very crowded pangea, to an isolated start.

I think I will love the scout clockwise and scout both cows. And yes, I am surprise I have not met anyone yet. Might the map script have thrown a curve ball like a low sea level archipelago? Thoughts for production? I find that it is particularly hard to choose production item number 2.

Agriculture and a worker it is. I suspect there is coastline to to east, so I send the scout west. The border pop confirms my suspicion. The scout discovers a horde of elephants. More than I have seen before, IIRC. And marble. But not a lot of food. City placement will require some thought...

Yeah, worker first, unless someone has a different plan?

Blue circles on the coast normally means sea resources. But settling in place will make a very strong capital. Sheepy Pillow is founded: Near the coast indeed. So, time to make a strategy, and of course use that to decide the first build and techs. I normally consider Catherine one of the...

"Hey, comrade! Look at those fluffy critters! Wonder what use they are?" "Comrade? Get your timeline straight! I am a tzarina!" Signature slap "Though you have a point, those critters are, indeed, fluffy. I declare them pillows!" "Baaaah!"...

Yes, that grassland is probably a strategic resource. And that is definitely the coast to the SE. If there is a better place to settle nearby, it is to the east. Thus, I will move the scout to the sheep on the hill. I will post an update tonight.
