I'm running into this very same problem. It's ridiculous that they don't release the patches at the same time to avoid this issue, or that there isn't some way to roll the patches back. Personally I'm very upset at Aspyr and the Civ game developers that they allow something like this to continue.

My friend and I are trying to play a game together, him on mac and myself on pc. Everything worked up steam automatically updated my game a few days ago, now we are unable to play because my friend is on the previous patch. Needless to say this has caused me endless amounts of frustration...
