I was playing the WW2 Desert War Scenario, and eventually I got to Advanced Combustion in the tech tree. I thought the quote was hilarious. "One day we'll look back on all this and plow into a parked car." Are there any other hidden gems in the scenarios?

What is the hammer for? What are artists and citizens good for? What other ways except building more farms are there to keep my cities from starvation? Are Libraries and Courthouses and such really crucial like the game makes them out to be? If so, why? How do I get rid of the it's too crowded...
