    Most underrated CIV 1 unit?

My vote is for Sail. Depending on the order you get your techs, you might have it a long while before any other ships, and it's just so superior to a trireme for early diplomat or caravan (or cavalry;)) drop offs on other land masses.

    Did I win?

Autumn Leaf, I actually had found a four fish save, just before my final (successful) attempt at Earth English OCC. So it may just be tech order or minor things that made the difference. Actually, I see you discovered comm/labor union, the whole nuke path, conscription, and steel/auto/mass...

    Did I win?

I'm only conflicted as pertains to the ground rules laid out in this thread for these games we are sharing. If playing on my own, I'd use it at will, along with railroading the seas. But I just wanted to put an asterisk on that "200 year" improvement I gained by using it, showing that it is only...

    Did I win?

I wonder if it isn't yet another exploit though. I don't think it was an intended feature. Disorder is supposed to make things worse, although it seems like they did allow for it to be used to maximize research in a city. Using it for growth, when WLTKD is supposed to be for growth, seems a tad...

I didn't know it was possible but you can get Republic too early. The above method has merits, but to the extreme I used it, it left me a bunch of shields behind a normal start. I managed to get banking by 1800 with it, but when I stopped to build, it took so long to get everything built that I...

    Did I win?

A few years ago, yes. I was shocked too. It seems the check for disorder is ahead of the check for WLTKD, so the second check is only done if not in disorder. It happens in any government, except Democracy I suppose. The only benefit in Republic is that you can, say, celebrate right after...

    Did I win?

hehe thanks. It looks better than it is though. Only a single militia has ever been built, with one shield in the box. I call the "technique" We Hate the Despot Day. I worked the two fish squares until pop 3, raised lux enough to celebrate, and then set lux to zero and walked the militia one...

My best effort so far! Well, at getting ridiculously early Republic:

    Did I win?

I just built the Colossus in the 2900s BC. But it was useless at that point, because I didn't have a river and I needed to build a settler and library, so I couldn't just work sea squares. Long story short, big delay on republic, and even banking, so by the time the Zulu demanded 200 gold around...

    Did I win?

Thanks! I do micro science at the beginning (when I can still eyeball the number of beakers needed to fill the bar), but after a while, again, I just want the game to progress. It's more ideal if you are a steady population and you peak at how many beakers this current tech is supposed to take...

    Did I win?

OK, I finished the English game after all. Here was tech tree (actually I think I messed with it a little when the Zulus were invading, to try to get wheel earlier, but then I ended up going back to this): Here is a pic of the size 26 London in 1776, hopefully our space colony doesn't declare...

    Did I win?

I tried the English game, and played to 1AD. Those Zulu are quite annoying. I may have to incorporate the wheel earlier into my tech list, if the goal is to come up with a general strategy for any opening. While my settler was improving the area, they constantly demanded techs, and then took 100...

    Did I win?

You may have a point. Copernicus is so much better than all the others that the others may not really make any sense. Darwin for your last two techs is reasonable I think, because according to my spreadsheet, that's 645+659 raw bulbs, doubled because of AD, and then another 1.5x I think because...

    Did I win?

I did micro. I'm just not very careful. :snowlaugh: So occasionally I wasted a turn or two. But I got just enough caravans for trade routes and to build the wonders I did build, which was really only Copernicus, Seti, Darwin, and Apollo, so I guess 39 caravans in all.:rudolf: After Apollo...

    Did I win?

Ah, I wondered what the diplomats were for. I forgot about walls and pop retention. RedKi-rr, I didn't do all that careful micro by then (I never really do that late in the game, as I just want to finish at some point), but if I was going to research something that turn, and also a caravan...
