bsebesty: I had very similar "checkerboard" crash as your screenshot, I got that always in less than 5 minutes. 6800GT overheating was actually not the issue at all. What helped was to upgrade my motherboard's VIA chipset drivers, haven't had this crash ever since, played more than 30 hours now...
A few weeks ago I was experiencing very similar crashes with my 6800 GT system, only difference to the screenshot in the beginning of this thread was that the "checkerboard tiles" were randomly colored instead of black and white.
However, as similar as the problem was, the solution was to...
I had the colourful pixel pattern problem too. However, the solution for me was to update motherboard chipset (VIA K8T800) drivers to the latest, which was VIA 4-in-1 version 4.56v at least in my case. Never encountered the problem since. So, I guess there are several alternative causes of...
NARC: I think I have solved the "colourful pixels" -crash. I noticed that I wasn't using the absolutely newest motherboard chipset drivers. If your motherboard also uses the VIA 4-in-1 drivers, go ahead and try version "4.56v" or newer. I haven't encountered any lockup since installing them, and...

However, it didn't fix the constant hard lockups that I'm encountering :-P
(I posted this one already as a reply in another thread, but then I noticed this thread which seems to pull together various graphics bug reports, so I'll repost it here, hope this offends no-one.)
The problem: I can play only like 3-5 minutes before graphics get corrupted and system locks...
I'm getting hard lockups also, at first only one in an hour or so, but now I can play only about 3-5 minutes before a total lockup happens.
The problem is always the same: Everything works normally, then without warning the screen gets corrupted. First you see very briefly (half a second)...
