As someone still struggling for the first Deity win, I'll take any advantage I can get. Especially the first time around. After if I want a harder challenge i can handicap myself any way I want. But purposely playing from a position of ignorance?

I tried that in my current game... I was building up experience for my army on an archipelago map and I was way up north destroying my enemy's outposts and some barb cities... I decided to keep a city and gift it to my current vassal but it wasn't even an option, i could only give him 4 cities...
I'd make the second city 1N of the corn (hopefully it's wet) or maybe 1W to get riverside for commerce and later building the Levee etc. and the third would share the crab.
I wouldn't make more than two WB to begin with either until you find some way to raise the happy cap
When I pick leaders i don't worry about UU and UB because I almost always play unrestricted leaders. And my favorite leader is Hannibal because he combines my 2 favorite traits. CHA I find helps a lot with the military side, more than any other trait, and at the very least in a typical game even...
