I also have the feeling that religion is too important. You are faced with either being disadvantaged because you don't have one, or risking major religious groupings attacking you if you do. I tend not to found them as to do so almost guarantees that you will be a target.

For me, micromanagement was one of the more interesting parts of the game which was thoroughly dumbed down for Civ IV. When you combine that with the lousy random map generation and the blatant AI cheating, Civ 4 isn't a patch on Civ 3 as far as I'm concerned.

Nope! There wasn't any point in taking a massive step backwards in terms of game play!

Anything which will replace the disaster that is Civilization IV asap!!

And Civ IV is a bad game anyway! Seriously worse game play than Civ III.
