I'm not entirely sure what you mean, but I don't think it's the problem. When I try and simply darken the ocean so that it's nearly black, as to make a "deep space" terrain, I end up with this instead:

I have a great idea for a new scernario, but it requires a completely new terrain set. Everytime I try and change the terrain .pcx's, though, I get my new terrain interlaced with purple triangles. What am I doing wrong?
