After being a long time (mostly) lurker in the forum who has read through countless succession games trying to master higher difficulties, I found this thread! :D Belated thanks to everyone who's contributed to the 'index'. Much appreciated!
[Lurker comment] :goodjob: Thanks Lymond for a great (short) primer on whip overflow. Thought I understood it before, but I see there are some nuances!
The 1.0.0.20 update came through, so I decided to try again. Loading a 1.0.0.17 save file resulted in the same behavior -- system hang on the game loading screen (with or without sound on -- makes no difference). I tried starting a new game and this worked. Initially I tried on a small map...
I have the Civ V DVD. I already had a steam account. Installing was a bit weird, as for quite awhile my steam client refused to connect to steam, despite a perfectly functioning high-speed internet connection. My son, a TF2 fanatic, advised "oh just wait awhile -- Steam registration servers...
Not to be too picky, but the TV tower on the cover art isn't the CN Tower in Toronto (seen here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/CN_Tower) but rather I think it looks more like the Pearl Tower in Shanghai (seen here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Oriental_Pearl_Tower)

Almost there O Chosen Ones! Quite a ride! :goodjob:
It is fascinating to observe such seasoned players tackle a mighty challenge such as this. Your back and forth reflected the tension of the challenge and yet you found a way forward. Well done!
One question...
While it's interesting to try to figure out details of upcoming CIV V such as "will there be a Viking civ to play"? or "will Ivory be a resource"? I'm more intrigued by the game play comments that have been made by Jon Shafer.
What do we know about Jon Shafer? First of all, he's an...
What if instead of another wonder, this feature was unlocked by a "Central Bank" corporation? "Reserve Bankers" could be produced and moved around to spread the CB. A civ could deficit spend up to a certain amount based on the number of CB's spread around, and then "Deficit Weariness" could...
Lurker comment:
Just read through this SG. Fascinating, despite the faux pas by TLO.
One thought on your 5's idea: Exempt GGs from the restriction, but only use them as unit leaders, never for military academies, etc.
Fair point -- but this isn't exactly a rich map and you do need city sites for a cultural. I agree it's marginal, so perhaps there's likely other (better) marginal sites?
It seems like you founded your cap 1 space too far W to benefit from the whales. Wouldn't founding a city 1N2E of whales make sense? There's copper there too for hammers, though not much else to speak of. Maybe too close to Chako Canyon?
Interesting game. Boreal is brutal -- I haven't tried...
Just posting to say howdy. Been a Civ player since Civ I. Found this forum after picking up Civ IV. I've enjoyed reading through some of the SG games (and learned a few things). Usually play Prince difficulty in BtS.
Handle and sig is long story. Don't ask. Won't tell! :D
