Strength required to take down cities

To follow up on what Browd said about killing the AIs army, you should do everything possible to avoid letting an AI ranged unit retreat back into the city you want to attack. Obviously it's not always avoidable, but a city with a ranged unit stationed inside is a *lot* harder to take out than...

Strength required to take down cities

If you don't mind super-micromanaging your units, you can always make sure that you have 1 or 2 already wounded 'bait' units that move in with your attack force. In my experience, the AI will prioritize a wounded unit in order to get a kill. -S

    Preventing an enemy space victory?

If there is a 1 turn cooldown after airlifting, the part should be nukable before it gets attached, correct? -S

    Civilization V Funny screenshots

China's CKNs are a real bear to deal with, unless of course, they decide to use something else to defend their cities... -S

    Liberty opening, where art thou?

I just wanted to say that I followed the Maya ICS guide linked here over the weekend, and it turned out amazing. I play at prince level, so keep that in mind. I wasn't the first to get a religion, but I was the second, and I was first to enhance. I took motg as pantheon, CB as founder...

    The right city distance?

It depends on if you are going tall or wide. If you only plan on planting 4 or less cities of your own, then the distance doesn't really matter, but should probably have at least 5 tiles between cities for maximum coverage. If you plan on planting more, then you can more safely go down to the...

Does the AI Cheat with Scouting?

I actually think this is one of the places the AI plays it straight. I've seen ruins within 7 tiles of an AI capital go untouched for as many as 15 turns. -S

Your 3 Fav civs this far?

    1. Babylon. This is my go to civ when I'm frustrated and want to beat up on the AI. The UU is a nice replacement, and the early GS makes it hard to avoid being awesome at tech early on. 2. China. Tech machinery, upgrade to CKNs, win. 3. Rome. I'm a builder, and the UA of Rome just feeds...

How Can One City Be The Holy City For Two Religions?

That's probably what happened, as far as capturing goes. To answer the OPs final question, the holy city for the religion is wherever the GP is when the religion is founded. Some players will deliberately move their GP away from their capital so that establishing an embassy doesn't give the AI...

    Toughest AI Civs

I voted for Wu, because if you don't meet her in time, her CKNs are a tough customer. -S

On what system do you play CiV (primarily)?

I run the game on 2 different, and vastly differently capable, IBM PCs. My laptop, which I use at work (like now) can play the game, as long as the map is small or smaller, and as long as none of the graphics options are set to anything other then 'lowest.' My home PC is significantly more...

Tips for Dealing w/Great Wall w/o Waiting for Dynamite

I find it somewhat ironic that one of the best land units for dealing with the GW is the Keshik, which is a Mongolian unit, against whom the actual GW was built to defend against. -S

    The Best UU's

If you won't be levelling your units up very much, then I think Longbows are superior to CKNs, since by default they are three range, and can attack with impunity when used properly. If you will be levelling your units a lot, then CKNs will probably be superior, since you'll be getting them...

Patch 1.03.18: Steam achievements doesn't work

Its a new bug, all the 'win' achievements are broken: leader, map type and map size, as well as any sub-achievements based on those. -S
