It's dead allright. Don't you see it with how they now charge $5 for a new civ?
There is no real love, only the money love. They didn't made this game because it was loved so much, but because it was so populair, and being afraid with making it harder it would sell less good.
Just look at...
I once started with a new game then after pressing the continue button from the info screen of your civ, it was ''you lost the game''. Dunno what happened, maybe my settler spanned on a barbarian? Or in the ocean where it sunk ;)
MS should have bought Firaxis and made it an 'only on xbox' title ;)
But yes I have the same feeling as you, but hey I get used to it.
There are still 2 games coming out soon, which ain't mainstream and not made by 'big money makers', which will be great fun (for me): il-2 Storm of War and Red...
Chess isn't that easy but everyone can play it yes. So if comparing with chess, I would say, it's chess with less pieces. More simple / less thinking. But yes it can be still great fun and challenging.
So we have a civil unrest on the forums.. we need more happy faces. They got enough gold, so probaly they gonna spend gold on making it great (at least in my dreams).
Got 2 friends, they never where in CIV really, they tried but seems the learning curve was to high. And now they absolute love CiV V, they always where pretty bad at it but now at prince, they have no problem whatsoever.
