    OK...buried in all those cabinent files was the installer, I ran that and now everything works. Thank you, I really appericiate the assistance!!

    When I ran the distrabutable...it simply asked me where i wanted the files extracted to...I chose the websetup folder...let me relook at that.

    While awaiting your response, I loaded d3dx9-32.dll directly into the Civ4 game folder and 53 MB directx _jun2007_redist into websetup in the DirecxtX folder in Windows/system32. I no longer get the d3dx9_32.dll error, but now I get the "Error Loading Shader Libraries.

    The original d3dx9-32.dll error appears when I attempt to startup the game. The error for the DirectX download appears when I attempt to run the Mircosoft download...it will begin but fails in initialization.

    Yes...that is what fails at initialization ...tried it 4 times now...error reads that a cabinent file necessary for installation can not be trusted and says to check that the certificate for the cabinent file is valid and cryptographic services are enabled. Downloaded the missing .dll...

    Nothing works for me so far regarding patch 1.74....I get the d3dx9_32.dll error. Attempting to download anything from Microsoft regarding DirectX yields a message saying that "a cabinent file needed for installation cannot be trusted" and stops the installation. XP with SP3 and all...
