Which leaders run away most often in your games?

Agreeing on Siam. They seem to do very well in most games. Caesar seems to be very feast-or-famine. It seems his AI is designed to piss off everyone around him, which results in him either being absolutely destroyed or conquering large tracts of land, depending on when the wars begin and...

    Phillosophical/Industrious

Cumulatively, they can be quite powerful. Even assuming someone maxed out on the religious buildings and completed the Apostolic Palace, Spiral Minaret, Sistine Chapel, and University of Sankore, that's pretty powerful. Each religious building would then offer +5 culture, +2 gold (not commerce...

    Castle obsolescence

I'm baffled as to why castles go obsolete so quickly. I'd think that they should go obsolete with rifling, like walls do. Further, it seems like you should be able to get them with Feudalism rather than Engineering (because, let's face it, even if castles do go obsolete with rifling, by that...

    Mercantilism Overpowered

State property disables ALL corporations, and I don't see people complaining about that too much. I'm glad that Mercantilism finally gets the respect it's deserved for some time. Running Representation, Pacifism, and Mercantilism is a great way to generate a lot of beakers, great people, and...

    3 Traits leaders

I like this idea much more than a third trait. DilithiumDad is correct in recognizing that some UBs offer a half-assed third trait of sorts. However, unique units and buildings are unique (duh) and add a lot more flavor to a civ than a third trait.

    Phillosophical/Industrious

Industrious can be pretty amazing when you manage to get yourself a tech lead, as it can ensure you're able to complete most of the wonders just as others are getting to them, or if you're tied, it means you're cranking them out a couple turns before others. For that reason, I find FDR and...

    3 Traits leaders

Long ago I tried 3 trait leaders, and it was actually pretty fun. It meant the AI managed better, because it had more strengths and the militaristic ones could do something better than just spam units and the builder ones could compete in other areas as well. It did diminish the uniqueness a bit...

    Shaka (AI) = Playerbasher?

Shaka isn't as insane as Monty or Ragnar, I'd say, but he has very little tolerance for being around a civ that isn't as militarily powerful as himself, and will often crush weaker civs. His unique building really helps him in keeping a big empire, too, so he doesn't capsize under maintenance...

Any way to avoid "gimmicky" maps on Custom Continents?

I tried that out, and I didn't care for it at all. It had little 1-tile clumps of jungle randomly scattered across the equator and other terrain oddities. I think I'd kill for a map script that wouldn't start you off near a gigantic desert/tundra and still placed resources and terrain features...

    Spy vs. Spy

    1) How do you weight your espionage early on? Evenly? Pick 1 guy? 2? I pick whoever is closest to me and thus, whoever I'm most likely to war against. If I'm bordered by two states, I try to split even unless war seems much more likely with one than the other. I never split even if I can help it...

    Anyone name their units?

I almost never name my units. Occasionally, I will name an elephant with Medic "Doctor Stampy" but that's about as far as it goes.

    Chemistry...

I, too, am increasingly annoyed at a lack of gunpowder siege weaponry until Steel. 19th century riflemen supported by 12th century siege weaponry is just flat-out ridiculous, and it's annoying having the riflemen waiting forever to assault a city because the trebuchets are extremely slow at...

    Philosophical/Industrious

It's simply too good. You could generate an insane number of great engineers, who complete wonders, who generate tons of other great people and the cycle continues. It's just too good and I'm glad it's not in the game.

    Worst leaders debate

This thread starter is far too complicated. I'm not surprised hardly anyone is responding.
