IIRC, wraiths are flying, non-corporeal, life-stealing units. it is the non-corporeal that gives the trouble. in which for each hit has 50% chance of failure, after which the wraith's defense can reduce it further, which oftens reduce to 0 damage. IMO, the heroes are truely the most "broken"...
