To buy or not to buy the DLC

You have very low expectations for games. 2K isn't some mom 'n pop publisher selling sub-$10 games on Steam or Xbox Live. Major titles, like Civ 5, should have all core game mechanics and design features 95% complete, implemented and bug free when shipped.

    First Game of Civilization 5

I think the problem is that you didn't spend the extra $15 to get the Babylon and map pack DLCs. The game gets way more fun after that!

    New DLC on December 16

I don't care if there are 10 civs, 20 civs, or 100 civs. The game as released for retail was unrefined (from a design and mechanics standpoint), it was rushed, it was buggy, and flat-out didn't live up to expectations of most fans of the franchise. Take a look at Blizzard's release of...

    New DLC on December 16

Counterstrike was a free mod, and was in open beta for years. Civ 5 retail + DLC = $75. And there is yet more DLC to come... And the game is released "as intended?"

    New DLC on December 16

I will plainly reiterate to you my assertion that the game was not released in a good state. That much you should agree. The fact remains that given a few extra weeks of development, the added content in the form of DLC could have been released within the original retail version, included in...

    New DLC on December 16

Civ 5 was released on Sept. 24th. It's now Dec. 10th. Do the math. No, I wouldn't. False and irrelevant to my argument. Babylon, Mongolia, and the accompanying maps and scenarios would have to have been fully complete or mostly complete given the amount of time between retail release...

    New DLC on December 16

The simple fact is that given a few extra weeks 2K could have released a slightly better product by merely including a few more civs, maps, and scenarios. We don't have to assume infinite production time for this to make sense. The majority of the work was already done for what has been, and...

    New DLC on December 16

Thank you for putting words into my mouth. I never said Firaxis "should have rushed" anything. In fact, I would rather they had released the game at a later date as a more polished product than what it is now. At least then I would have no problem buying DLC as an enhancement to an already...

    New DLC on December 16

I already paid 50 bucks for this broken, buggy, incomplete, poorly designed mess of a game... and now they want me to spend another $5 for Babylon, $10 for a map pack, and $7.50 for Spain and Inca? Really? Almost 25 bucks MORE for content that SHOULD have come with the original purchase!
