[G&K] "new to expansion" advisor setting does nothing?

I have played the base game six times so far. I just added Gods & Kings and am a few dozens turns into the game. I set the options for advisors to "new to expansion". I expected this to work how it does in Civ 6: whenever you first encounter something new to the expansion, a dialog pops up and...

    Civilization without science

I feel that you do need some sort of limit on the science in Civ 6. It is far too easy to get a huge lead. In my last game, I hit industrial era in 900AD. I wasn’t even trying, it just happened naturally. I’ve since played many games of Civ 5, and it doesn’t seem to have the same issue. I...

Combat Bonuses - A Thread Comparing the Combat of Civ V and VI

I never use any mods. I haven’t even enabled the expansions yet. I am on prince difficulty. This is mainly a holdover from Civ 6, where I despised playing on any higher difficulties (despite the game being extremely easy) because it negated fun parts of the game, such as building wonders.

Combat Bonuses - A Thread Comparing the Combat of Civ V and VI

I’m almost finished with a session where this sort of thing happened. Germany first blitzed through America. I offered all the non-military assistance I could, but it didn’t help much. After a period of quiet, Germany brought a staggering number of units upon city-state allies and one of my...

    Do you name your units?

I finally remembered to try naming the units. It seems I can name them after the first promotion after all. I still forget to name them! I usually remember it the instant I click the promotion.

    Unit cycling gets 'stuck'

I finally tested this and it seems to work fine. I am playing the base game with no mods.

    Do you name your units?

Thanks. I have since seen the edit button, but wasn’t sure exactly what made it appear. I do recall that in an earlier game (Civ 4?), naming units required multiple promotions. It’s odd that the game itself doesn’t mention this.

[Vanilla] Why did the entire continent suddenly declare war on me?

No mods. I presume that entry just means that we had declared friendship at some point, because I can request friendship on the diplomacy screen. In fact, this was the only way I was able to avoid these wars after reloading my save game.

    Do you name your units?

Hi, friends. I didn’t know you could name your units until I saw this post. However, I don’t appear to be able to name my units, even when they are promoted. Was this added in an expansion? I just have the base game, no mods. Supposedly there is an “edit” button on the promotion display, but I...

[Vanilla] Why did the entire continent suddenly declare war on me?

I loaded up the save file from the turn immediately before the wars were declared. I have the strongest military (155 vs under 100 for everyone else). All Civs had a "friendly meeting" and I have a delegation with each. I specifically went out of my way to only greet others with a scout and have...

    Where's the joy in civ6?

Your comment made me realize that, in my hundreds of hours of Civ 6, I have never seen an AI “navy”. I have recently started playing Civ 5, and in my second game, I stumbled into Rome’s large fleet of ships and troops making their way across the ocean toward my capital. It was rather exciting! I...

Combat Bonuses - A Thread Comparing the Combat of Civ V and VI

Thanks for this writeup. It clarifies many of the issues I have with Civ 6 compared to Civ 5. I vastly enjoy the more strategic battles of Civ 5, where I really have to consider promotions and positioning. I read this post right after playing a Civ 6 session where my neighbour declared war on...

Civ6 runs in 'Below Normal' priority

This is strange. When I check CPU usage via the Xbox game bar (win-g), it only shows 1-3% CPU. Task manager shows 25%.

    Unit cycling gets 'stuck'

Wow, I completely forgot that there is a next unit keyboard shortcut. I have been using the mouse to select units for years. I do remember using the keyboard shortcut in Civ 2! I’ll give it a try in my next game and let you know.

    Civilization V

I strongly agree. Over the past few weeks, I have played two full games of Civ 5, and four half-games of Civ 6. I get around the industrial era and fizzle out. To the OP: I have played a few hundred hours of Civ 6 over the past two years. I tried Civ 5 two weeks ago, and I don’t think I will be...
