    Walls

The problem is that on large pangea maps, you would need a wall of 30 units to block an enemy civ, that's an entire army early in the game. It's inefficient, annoying to set up and leaves your cities vulnerable. Walls were used in the real world effectively for thousands of years, why not in...

    Ethics of reloading?

I think you do. You get to understand which strategies work - and which don't. I do it when I want to understand how a certain strategy will work out differently. For example, in a game the other week, I suspected an AI was coming to attack me, so I attacked them first... I reloaded, didn't...

How to get peace from AI?

IIRC, someone said taking the enemy's capital will lead to them wishing to seek peace ASAP -- but I'm not 100% sure this works. I've never gotten an AI to talk peace earlier than 3 turns before, that was after I blitzed half their cities in one turn. It sounds logical that if you attack them...

What civ will NEVER NEVER NEVER be in civ?

Canada  They haven't been mentioned for almost 2 posts and only a total of 50 times in this thread... :p I wonder how many more times... lol

    Things That Drive Me Crazy!!!

Or a spearman :D Actually losing against a rifleman makes SOME sense, a guy with a gun could, somehow, win (anyone played Half Life?)... but a spearman? Do they get a spear stuck in a gasket? :) Classic. You may have the biggest airforce but they sure are horrible at aiming, imagine if they...

    Walls

What about people, like me, who play mostly on pangea maps where everyone is on the same island and this doesn't apply?

    Monarch level expansion phase

Same. You can still win games without building a single wonder, unless you're aiming for a cultural/wonder victory :P Depends on the style of play. On the easier levels you get the chance to build most of the wonders, but in Monarch, where you need to pump out settlers to stay on par with the...

    Early republic

Most games I just go straight for a Republic and never bother switching to anything else again. Mostly do this since I rarely play as a religious civ so it's too hard to switch later as everyone else has said. It is harder in the higher levels to maintain a surplus in the budget in the early...

Longest time you played civ at once!

That's so odd, I did the same thing... I've had Civ3 for around 2-3 years but never got into it until I left my job a few months ago! My longest run would be from around 8:30AM to 2:30PM, in that there would of been about an hour where I was away from the game but left it running (going back...

    Walls

the time taken to build them? their strength? I think it's a fantastic idea, maybe a negative to having walls could be that the terrain it goes through loses a shield in production/commerce/food? Prevents people from going crazy with them.

Am I the only person who is mad?

Firaxis are making the game for EVERYONE, not just for YOU. If YOU don't like the game, tough luck. I happen to love the graphics, fair enough you believe the game may be cartoonish, I agree with that, but to expect Firaxis to apologize? Are you kidding me? If anything, Firaxis should be...

    E3 2005: Civ4 Live Stage Demo (GameSpot)

Oh. My. God. http://www.gamespot.com/pc/strategy/civilizationiv/media.html Everyone MUST sign-up to Gamespot and view the live demo! 11 minutes worth of stuff and it reveals a fair bit of info about some leaders, part of the tech tree, resources etc. I almost cried :D

    IGN first look at E3

Absolutely agree, Sullla! Glad you said it first :) The game looks to be progressing great, I like most, but not all, of the changes mentioned in the article. We all need to just remember the game is still in the PRODUCTION STAGE, everything that you see in the screens now will most likely...

    Invade or leave alone?

OK here's the map -- it's 3 images stitched together to show most of the world. You can see (just) some of the German cities taken and the stage I'm at now. Yeah yeah I know about the city placements :) As I've thought about it more and more, I agree that it probably was a mistake to take...

    Hitler??

I agree too. What exactly made Hitler a "great" leader and qualify to become a figurehead? He is hardly something to be proud of. Others said it, but it will probably only be Hitler in a scenario if included. Personally though, I don't mind either way, it's just a game in the end.
