Great starting position for GP farm city - but how to manage it?

As someone else said in these forums, sickness from flood plains is never a bad thing; the extra food from the flood plains overcomes the food loss from sickness. Anyway, that city can be both a GP farm and a commerce center. Cottage all those flood plains. Try to build pyramids. Get metal...

    How to modernize an army?

Part of this depends on civics. If you're in hereditary rule, you have a use for a lot of obsolete units. Even if you're not, you need at least one in every city. Some, of course, should be upgraded. I generally make sure to upgrade the highly promoted ones - which for me usually means...

What does irrigation do and how do I irrigate?

One more thing, city squares will also chain irrigation, when they are built on flat land.

    cottage spaming for a dummy

Of course farm the corn and pasture the cows. At that point you have to decide what you want for this city. If you want it to be a commerce city or mixed use city, first cottage the grasslands next to rivers. Down the road you can decide if you want to farm or cottage the plains, and...

    29 Great People

I wage wars of conquest in pacifism all the time. The extra maintenance cost doesn't amount to much, particularly if you're on noble and/or have a small but technologically advanced strike force.

How many GP points were you generating? Here's the best "London" I've managed, 308 gp points and 159 hammers: http://forums.civfanatics.com/showthread.php?t=219285 I didn't count the GP's, though. Many of them were engineers who were spent building wonder in London and elsewhere.

King of the World #2 Pre-game Thread

"The Revenge of Roosevelt." Or even tougher, Huyana. Give a chance to the civ you wiped out/vasselized in the last game.

Do you need iron for grenediers? Just one tech past gunpowder.

    Cannon v. Cavalry

I'm in a game now where my top 3 or so AI opponents have all teched toward cavalry and (as the AI somehow seems to be able to do) instantly have a ton in the field. I, on the other hand, more or less beelined to steel for cannon. So it's my cannon with a few grenediers and pikes against...

    Dealing w/Raging Barbarians?

Hook up copper ASAP. Make sure you have plenty of roads through your territory so your axemen can get around. Build axemen and load them up with combat 1 and shock and then combat 2. Maybe one or two with cover. Have them stand on the hills and swoop down on anybody that comes onto a...

King of the World #1: Montezuma

If you (1) have a great engineer, or (2) think you will get to fusion first, or (3) have a ton of money, you go rocketry first, and start building Apollo project in the highest-hammer city you've got. Then you go after robotics and build space elevator (remember the geographical limitations) in...

    What do you build first?

Why wouldn't you just build the work boat from the get-go, since population growth still occurs while building a work boat? But, if I'm not building a work boat, I do the same thing, except I'll usually build a warrior instead of the barracks at first.

King of the World #1: Montezuma

That barbarian city of Mauryan, if it's where I think it is, is a production and food powerhouse. Get it (despite the distance). Madrid seems to be the shrine city for two religions, including the popular Hindu faith. You might target Izzy as your first old-world conquest.
