I have to say there were many times that I really enjoyed SOD. Admittedly, the times I enjoyed it most was when I was up against a stronger opponent and that happened very often before I gained enough Civ4 experience. I would go on a pillaging campaign with the hope of beating them later...

I didn't read the entire post but where's the option for lightweight civ (ala Revolutions/Facebook) to appeal to the newbies and Heavyweight Civilization to appeal to the hardcore? Lightweight helps establish a brand name to new/casual gamers, and if they like/want more they move to the core...

Hardcore or not there seems to be a lack of understanding of Civ4 and the concept of "tradeoff" and why that makes for interesting decisions. Some people just want to have their cake and eat it too.

Civ made me realize exactly why China supports North Korea. Who wants a unified Korea? (damn Financial Techer!). Sorry Civ4 reference, but you get the point. And why US protected Taiwan in its infancy and current state. And why we all like the Dalai lama. And why India's our new best friend...
